A Look Ahead at This Year's Big Fall Romances

Longtime readers can tell you that autumn romance books have their own vibe, as do winter romances. The good news is we’ve got them both collected here in our preview of love stories to look for in the coming months.
The books below represent a sampling of buzzy reader picks, high-profile authors, and some special sneak peeks from the stacks. This time around, we’ve split the offerings into categories: contemporary, historical, and fantasy/paranormal. All the titles here are slated to publish between mid-August and late December.
Some spotlight items, in no particular order: Genre veteran Jennifer L. Armentrout has two books en route this season, the latest in her Flesh and Fire series and the dark romantasy Fall of Ruin and Wrath. In historical romance, look for new titles from Sarah MacLean (Knock Out) and Evie Dunmore (The Gentleman’s Gambit).
And we’re happy to report that the sports romance subgenre continues to thrive in the second half of the year: Caught Up, The Long Game, and Cleat Cute (tortured puns + sapphic soccer = hottt!). As always, it can be fun just to browse the virtual aisles in the romance section. We’re looking at you, Raiders of the Lost Heart.
Have fun, hover over the book cover images for more details about each title, and add any interesting leads to your Want to Read shelf.

Melody wrote: "Omg i almost added every book to my tbr hahaha i have a problem"Sounds like a totally reasonable decision to me!
Really wish there were a few more M/M entries in the expected romance category. Always happy to see new offerings from the talented KJ Charles, but come on, there are other good authors in this subgenre. For example Freya Marske's trilogy finale A Power Unbound - have been waiting for this with anticipation and it drops soon! Happy to see some F/F offerings continue to return in the list!
"The Christmas Wager" by Holly Cassidy will also be a good one and should be on this list. Comes out Sept 26!

Such a great selection! I can't wait for fall to start so I can get cozy and read as much fall books as humanly possible.

Some great picks but COME ON, where are the BIPoC queer romances??? It's late 2023 and you mean to tell me that Goodreads couldn't find ANY?That's unacceptable.
Melody wrote: "Omg i almost added every book to my tbr hahaha i have a problem"LMAO couldnt relate more
Please add a new M/M historical romance:"Crimson" by Casey Morales. Set in the 1940s and planned as a series. The first book just came out. He's also written numerous other m/m romances.
