Readers' Most Anticipated Mysteries of 2022

Posted by Cybil on January 3, 2022

Anticipation, in the world of books, is part of the fun. Consider the feeling you get when you find out your favorite author has a new book coming out in a few months. It’s a day brightener, isn’t it? It makes the future a little easier to contemplate.

In honor of this happy phenomenon, we’ve crunched the numbers to create this mystery and thriller preview list, based on what Goodreads readers are tagging in their Want to Read lists. Bust out those calendar apps—each of the books below is scheduled for release in 2022. There’s a lot to get excited about.

British author Lucy Foley, author of the 2020 smash hit The Guest List, sets her latest mystery in France with The Paris Apartment. Mischievous meta-horror writer Grady Hendrix (The Final Girl Support Group) returns with How to Sell a Haunted House. And Simone St. James (The Sun Down Motel) is back in the game with The Book of Cold Cases, about a true-crime blogger, a spooky mansion, and an old saying concerning curiosity and cats.

We also have plenty of debut authors who are garnering some attention: Nita Prose with the murder mystery The Maid, Jane Pek with the techo-thriller The Verifiers, and Grace D. Li with the art heist puzzler Portrait of a Thief.

Scroll over the book covers to learn more about each title, and add the ones that pique your interest to your Want to Read shelf

Most lists are based on stats taken from Shelves of all users.

I know how the list is compiled and that is why I want to find a site that picks books I will want to read. I have been watching the mystery/thriller category for a couple of years and my "TBR" is not going to change it. This site is geared towards another demographic.

message 18: by Kathi (new)

message 39: by Irene (new)

Irene O'Neill The title in the newsletter said mystery and thrillers but when you get to the article, it’s just mysteries. There doesn’t seem to be a category for spy thrillers or political thrillers or espionage thrillers. Books by writers like BenCoes, Mark Greaney, Joel C. Rosenberg, Vince Flynn.

Redfred Greats news that Don Winslow has a new book coming.

The list isn’t garbage, it reflects a portion of the new books being published. Perhaps Sanford, DeMille and other favorites of yours aren’t bringing out new books this year or they aren’t in the first few months of 2022. I am sure you will find other books to look forward to, discover and enjoy this year.

message 46: by Hildred (new)

Hildred Lisa Scottoline’s new one, for sure!
