I will be reading The Time Machine by H.G. Wells for this event. It's really just a short read so I think I might be finished with it by the end of this week. :)
I finished Annihilation (of the Southern Reach trilogy, Sci-Fi) just before this week started. It was pretty good, but it made me really uncomfortable. Maybe I'll pick up the second book this week. The books I'll definetly start this week:
- The Priory of the Orange Tree (my absolute holy grail, I'm so hyped)
and
- Red Queen

It’s interesting to see that goodreads pushes so many well exposed sci fi titles, trade publisher books and the like… but never boosting self published sci-fi that gets overlooked or could use a readership increase. A bit one sided. But then, this is Amazon’s page really, hike up the money makers and not the lower “pond scum” authors, right? Sorry if that seems bitter, but honestly, it’s how many of us self published authors feel right now.
By coincidence I am reading "I Am Alive and You Are Dead: A Journey into the Mind of Philip K. Dick" by Emmanuel Carrère this week. No, not a coincidence, I mean "Phildickian sinchronicity"...

Haven't paid too much credence to these types of frankly bubblegum lists. I have Goodreads friends, but I walk alone.
Im gunning for Malice and fingers crossed, start and finish Starsight by Brandon Sanderson. Ambitious plans..
Jeff wrote: "It’s interesting to see that goodreads pushes so many well exposed sci fi titles, trade publisher books and the like… but never boosting self published sci-fi that gets overlooked..."From what I've seen so far, I have to say I agree. I was rather hoping Goodreads might view this as an opportunity to promote indie and small press. Not sure I see the point of promoting things that probably sell a million anyway. And I'm not just saying this to be self-serving. I've read indie fantasy and sci-fi books that deserve some attention, and it would be nice to discover more.

If you love Science Fiction, some Romance dabbled in with some Fantasy then check out UpSpark, StarDust and TwinFlames all by Nicole Wells. Such an AMAZING series!
Am reading The Forward Series of novellas put together by Blake Crouch. The novellas by several well known authors are all great science fiction stories. Summer Frost by Crouch is excellent.
I'll be reading Invincible: Compendium Vol. 3
Guarding the Globe, Vol. 2: Hard to Kill
Invincible Universe, Volume 1: On Deadly Ground
Invincible Universe Vol. 2
then maybe Tech Jacket, Vol. 3: Touch the Sky & Tech Jacket, Vol. 4: All Falls Down
I started Dune and The Fellowship of the Ring and Elantris this week. They're going to blow my mind.Perfect.

I do wish they'd promote indie and small press more with these lists.
I will be reading All Systems Red by Martha Wells. This book has been in my TBR since 2017 and I think (finally) it is the time to be read.
I am reading danish author Boris Hansen's new sci-fi book "Den usynlige krig" which is best translated to "The invisible war".

At the moment, I'm reading
Spaceworlds: Stories of Life in the Void
by Mike Ashley. It's a collection of short stories from the classic science fiction era. This book features stories set on space stations, habitats and on living and working in space. It's one in a collection from the British Library Science Fiction Classiscs. It's a great series so far and has made my summer reading very enjoyable.I know Goodreads lists fall short but the comments at least are a place where readers can share what we're reading. I wish more people shared the books they wanted to have more exposure.

I used to be a reviewer on a blog that reviewed indie and small press works, and it's a shame what goes unnoticed by the masses.

It would be nice...

What about the little people and I don't mean Hobbits :-)
Jeff wrote: "It’s interesting to see that goodreads pushes so many well exposed sci fi titles, trade publisher books and the like… but never boosting self published sci-fi that gets overlooked or could use a re..."do you know any blog/site that promotes indie/self-published books? i would love to discover them, sadly goodreads is my go-to place for book reccs, and its disappointing to hear that they only promote big names

Is there someplace I can see what is on the list for the British Classics of Science Fiction series. Thanks,
I like the images and banners here on site. So good as always.Right now, I'm reading His Dark Materials#1#The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman.
Ian wrote: "For anyone who enjoyed Trudi Canavan's Black Magician Trilogy, my fantasy book recommendations for this week are: The Exercise Of Vital Powers and [book:The Apprentice In The Master..." Thank you for posting! I did indeed enjoy the Black Magician trilogy, and now I have bought _The Exercise of Vital Powers_.
My reading plan is Poul Anderson's The Van Rijn Method now that I finally found it. Not sure why it was on top of the microwave.
Hey guys, I'm reading a lot of comments from writer's/self published books on this thread and that makes me sad as I'm thinking about possibly starting a group or something to help author's get their books more exposure please send me a friend request so we can talk.
"Sci-Fi and Fantasy Week" is just any normal week for me -- that's most of what I read (actually listen to, since I do most of my "reading" in audio). :-)I'm finishing up the fifth trilogy in CJ Cherryh's Foreigner series right now. After that I'm planning to catch up on Craig Schaefer's Daniel Faust UF series (listen up, you indie people!).
All you guys complaining about no indie exposure -- stop complaining and start mentioning authors and titles that you want us to check out! For instance, I think Craig Schaefer and Nazri Noor are both talented indie UF writers. Who would y'all recommend? Speak up!
Speaking of indie titles, I recently read "Children of the Origin Project" by Asa Rubin. It's quite engaging and poignant. Highly recommend!
I am reading the Dune saga! Frank Herbert was an amazing writer and that saga is, for me, one of the best in this universe.
Eloise wrote: "I will be reading The Time Machine by H.G. Wells for this event. Stephen Baxter's officially authorised sequels (The Time Ships and The Massacre of Mankind) are worth a read too.
I'm reading Dawn by Octavia E. Butler and All Clear by Connie Willis. Also just finished The Andromeda Strain by Michael Crichton on Audible.
Every week is fantasy and sci fi week for me.I have a big stack of books that includes Dauntless, Malice, Rhythm of War, and John Scalzi's trilogy about the Collapsing Empire.
Tiag⊗ wrote: "No love for Sci-Fi comic books?"Im currently reading Saga, Invisible Republic, Black Science, Bitch Planet, Dark Matter, Descender, Ascender, East of West, Paper Girls.
Tiag⊗ wrote: "No love for Sci-Fi comic books?"Technically this site is supposed to be for books (plus audiobooks and ebooks) only. However comics and magazines do slip in (specially if they are in ebook form) and no one says anything about it. My opinion is that if the electronic version of a comic or magazine is legitimate than the original form should be too. Besides I have some books that are smaller than some comics as far as page count goes.

This week will be:
- Dresden Files on audiobook
- Ruin
- A Reaper at the Gates
