Tiffany McDaniel's latest book, "Betty", is outstanding! You will surely enjoy this read. "Betty" is Tiffany McDaniel's second book; her debut book "The Summer that Melted Everything" is also excellent.
If you are looking for young adult indigenous reads, Eric Gansworth and Cynthialeitichsmith are some authors to check out
Ash wrote: "Does anybody have any recommendation for Sci-fi/futuristic fiction by Native Americans?"Moon of the Crusted Snow is apocalyptic. It has more of a „end of days“ feeling to it and isolation. And then there is Trail of Lightning, which is Urban Fantasy. Her Black Sun is mentioned in the list above. She won a Hugo and Nebula for Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience. You can read it for free online—check it out to see if you like her writing: https://apex-magazine.com/welcome-to-...
Here's a coming-of-age story of a Native American boy with great imagination, visions, folklore and memories of his grandpa. Sixteen And Change
The Only Good Indians was a book I loved for so many reasons - the writing is sublime, the eerie atmospere, social observations etc. I highly recommend it and will most def check out more on this list.
I just finished The High Divide by Lin Engeer and found it to be very satisfying. This is a first novel.
Really want to get Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse, but there's some other books in here I should add to my list as well.
Can recommend some awesome Canadian indigenous authors: Daniel David Moses, Thomas King, Tomson Highway, Drew Hayden Taylor, Margaret Lawrence. In fact, check out this list https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/9...
Five Little Indians by Michelle Good. What was interesting is that it was not about being in residential schools, but how the people coped after the schools.
Recently, Atlas Obscura featured a discovery on the Incan counting system, quipu, and also can serve as Native American subject for a next post to inform us on books with this theme.
Winter Counts is a really fast and exciting read and I found myself awake at 3am just to finish it!
