And watch the 1963 movie, The Haunting, based on Jackson's book! I remember watching it on TV in 1969 and being so scared I couldn't get out of my chair to turn it off and go to bed!

Kavita Jhala Yakshini

This is a pure engrossing read! Every woman and man must read it! It is a supernatural drama

message 216: by Mega Charlie (new)

Mega Charlie Rose I've just completed Carrie and Salem's Lot. Currently reading The Shining and The Brer Rabbit Collection. I think Brer Rabbit gives Stephen King a run for his money.

message 217: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm finally going to get on the bandwagon (or in the clown car), and read IT by Stephen King. Sometimes I feel as if I'm the only one who hasn't read it.

message 218: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Ali Same reading it

message 219: by David (new)

David Phillips I read Clive Barker's The Hellbound Heart - having watched Hellraiser many times, the book shows how closely the film was adapted to it - fantastic read though!

I moved straight on to The Scarlet Gospels (which also features Pinhead) - I've currently just read the Prologue: this is great writing and grim, horrific reading! Barker at his best - totally repulsive and v shocking, yet told with wit and gravitas.

message 220: by JP (new)

JP Wright Currently reading Joe Hill's "Full Throttle" as well as Stephen King's "The Institute".

Not so much gory but spooky - I like YA and adult books so happy for either - maybe even a sort story anthology so I can do a different story each day? What are your favorite (non gory) horror books? - "The Haunting of Hill House" by Shirley Jackson

Bastiaan Koster And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie.

Well, it is Spooktober and Horror Week. So, I should read a classic thriller/horror novel. My first plan was The Hound of the Baskervilles but it was more practical to read "And Then There Were None". This book was appropriately scary! And a real page-turner. I seldom read a +150 page book in a few days. I also watched the miniseries alongside.

message 237: by Vladimir (new)

Vladimir Jankovic Have you tried Piaget’s Last Fear ??

message 238: by Vanessa (last edited Oct 05, 2019 08:48AM) (new)

Vanessa Dargain Genuine horror is too upsetting a genre for me , but to stay in the spirit of the things I'm re-reading THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW and RIP VANWINKLE , two legendary 19th century unsolved mysteries . And that's about as spooky as I can handle .

message 239: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Continuing with my Edgar Allan Poe collection :)

message 240: by Mallory (new)

Mallory I highly suggest A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay and Suffer the Children by Craig DiLouie for Horrow Week!!!

message 242: by Elizabeth (new)

message 245: by Natassia (last edited Oct 04, 2019 01:52AM) (new)

Natassia I'm currently reading The Silent Companions and it's absolutely terrifying. Victorian gothic drama at it's best, with all the mystery, black magic/witchcraft, creeping feeling, lonely old house... I can only read short spurts at a time because I'm too afraid!

Jackie's Bookbytes Michelle wrote: "I'm re-reading IT by Stephen King" I'm hosting an It read-a-long in October. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it.

Does the cover give you chills like it did me?
