Dawn Here's a great article by Andrei Codrescu on Hearn: https://www.theparisreview.org/blog/2...
Also, if you haven't watched it yet, definitely check out the film KWAIDAN. It's campy, it's haunting, it's awesome!

message 193: by Carly (new)

Carly I'm currently reading a book about demons and thwir familiars (it's written by a woman that is psychic and a medium/demonologist)
Even if you don't believe in the exisence of entities like demons, devils, familiars or other types of spirits the information in the book is good to know (especially if your a paranormal investigator, psychic, a witch, demonologist, /occultist etc)
Demons can/will appear in your life when you least expect it and unaware of how it even happened, this book explains some of the ways this can happen.
Protect yourselves especially on Samhain/Halloween from evil spirits, demons and other types of entities. Don't put yourself in spiritual danger just for a cheap thrill, because you are ignorant of the spiritual/supernatural realm, don't provoke the dead either, treat communication/any type of ritual or spiritual practice with any type of spirit/entity with respect always.

message 194: by Alexander (new)

Alexander Hello, I would like to ask for recommendation. I like black metal music and I would like to read something homologous in literature, to have the same kind of emotions. What books would introduce me in the same dark, sublime athmosphere like the music of bands like, for example, Shining does? Thanks! : )

Michele Daigle Why only a week! Why not a month?! :D

message 198: by willow (new)

willow I bought Carrie and The Body by Stephen King today. :) I know The Body isn't that scary, but I'm a little nervous for Carrie. Horror is one of my favorite genres of movies, so I've never really read any horror. This is definitely out of my comfort zone but I'm such a Halloween enthusiast I'm pushing myself to read so hOrRoR.

I said horror 3 times in this comment. (4 actually) oops.

willow Fain wrote: "Does anyone have any recommendations on YA horror or that suitable for middle or high school? I was thinking to make a reading list for this upcoming halloween event."

Yes!! Anything by Mary Downing Hahn! She is a middle grade horror writer with some spoopy looking books but they're really good, and not that scary. My favorite by her is "Took."

message 200: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra I'm coincidentally reading It by Stephen King :) Perfect timing.
