message 205: by Melanie (new)

Melanie Dulaney I reread Shusterman’s Scythe after getting my high school history son, engineer husband, and surveyor cousin to read it and now the discourse and dialogue about all its social, ethical, and literary elements commences!!! I also read an ARC of a new Dragonriders of Pern book written by the originator’s daughter. Pretty good so now I have to go back and re-enjoy Dragonflight, DragonQuest and The White Dragon. I also read book 4 in Rachel Caine’s outstanding Great Library series and was thrilled to discover that she will be at a library near me in September. Go check out my reviews if you haven’t read any of those and love fantasy and dystopia that can really make you think!

Considering no one has to pay to use this site and benefit from the information and community it offers, I think you can survive being exposed to the sponsored content that Goodreads needs to post in order to keep the site up and running.

Liz Is there much difference between YA and Midgrade?

message 213: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Peppercorn Liz wrote: "Is there much difference between YA and Midgrade?"

Yeah, a pretty big difference. YA is more for teens and twenty somethings, middlegrade is for kids 8 - 12. YA will have more mature topics usually than middlegrade.

message 224: by Christine (new)

Christine Marshall I would have to say any Alex Deleware series by Jonathan Kellerman or one I just read the perfect day... I have found most of my books on www.bookbub.com they send a mailing list of really cheap and fee books every day... I have gotten over 1000 books in the past two years just from there alone!
Chris

message 225: by Lady Willpower (new)

Lady Willpower I just finished A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro, and even though I'm not a huge Sherlock Holmes fan, it was brilliant! I loved the idea of a female Sherlock, as well as the ways the two main characters played off each other. It gave me a book hangover, so I may be taking a little break from YA (but I'll be back :)).

message 226: by Alex (new)

Alex Paper butterflies by Lisa Heathfield *sobs*

message 227: by April (new)

April If ACOTAR is YA, then I think the same can be said about the book I am reading Currently. So my recommendation is The Name Of The Wind. I am not quite half way through and I am completely hooked. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the series has to offer.

message 228: by Elias (new)

Elias My book for YA Week was Runemarks. It was magnificent.

message 229: by Renn (new)

Renn Yas wrote: "YA is where unimaginative lazy writing come to thrive."

Then maybe you haven’t found the right YA book for you.
Try The Knife of Never Letting Go (I’ve found Patrick Ness to be a very creative writer) or the Pure trilogy. Personally, YA books are hit or miss with me, so I understand your sentiment.

message 230: by Joya (new)

message 243: by Lidia (new)

Lidia Every year we have a YA week. It's annoying already! I know it's a trending genre, but it's getting old. Every YA book is the same (love triangle, "big" romance going on, saving the world etc.) Think about something new.
For example, I have never seen a historical fiction week. So many great books are from this genre (like Pillars of the Earth etc.)

Just think about it, guys!

message 244: by book_girlfriend (new)

book_girlfriend just finished re-reading Throne of Glass.
