Ready Player One and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children both sucked in comparison to the books. Seriously, Hollywood, stop changing things that don't need to be changed.

I just watched Love, Simon today and I don't think I could ask for a better adaptation of one of my favorite YA contemporaries.

I had to read that either my freshman or sophomore year of high school. I never see it on on any YA lists!

I personally would put A Wrinkle In Time in the Science Fiction section and not Fantasy. Actually, I just looked up what L'Engle had to say about it to make sure I wasn't totally off base and her response was this: 'It's a book. I don't like categorizing. There is a new term, 'science fantasy.' I suppose that comes fairly close.'

I like that. It's actually pretty much the genre I write.

1. Forgot Beautiful Creatures (but no matter as it was awful as an adaptation.).
2.A majority of these flopped, were scoffed at by critics and were awful than the ones like the Hunger Games and Harry Potter that were actually good.

I love myself some YA so I have read 13 of this lot and also plan to read almost all of the remaining ones. Cheers and Keep on Reading.

I loved the I Am Number Four movie and book series. I don't know why they only did 1 though.
I gotta say I LOVED the book Simon VS The Homo Sapiens Agenda but I did not really care for the movie. But I don't usually like the movies of books I love. They rarely do the movies made from books proper justice....

Ummm, Ready Player One is not a YA novel. It has a young protagonist, but it’s marketed as adult science fiction. Mind you, I’d like to pretend that movie never happened anyway.

I've read 20 of these. Vampire Academy is one of favorite series of all time. The movie was only okay since they went with a comedic spin on it. But I still watch it when I want to revisit the world without re-reading.

Not to be annoyingly technical, but Ready Player One is an adult books that 'appeals' to Young Adults. It's not actually YA. That being said, the movie is also an entirely different beast than the book (which I love wholeheartedly). ^_^

Nooooooooooooooo!! Percy Jackson should not be on this list. Despite those being some of my favorite books of all time, I am still trying to forget the awful movie adaptations. If only all of hollywood would give the same kind of respect to books as did the producers/directors of Harry Potter and Hunger Games.

Ready Player One was a book this 76 year old really enjoyed and half of the 1980s references went over my head. That says that it is almost surprising that it would appeal to YA readers except that the dystopian world of the book would appeal. I'm hearing from many of the book's readers of my acquaintance that the movie is a real disappointment and I intend to go with their evaluation. I wasn't happy with much of the Wrinkle in Time movie, especially with the changes, although I liked the casting.

The movies were really slow and dull to me. Not nearly as good as the others. Too much dialogue and unnecessary scenes and I hate how Katniss gets so obsessed with Peeta and depressed. The deaths were all unnecessary and it was way less action-packed and memorable.

Harry Potter and The Hunger Games were made by people who care about the books and put their blood, sweat and tears into making sure they made great movies that would last rather than cheap, quick, empty cash grabs. They spent money on some of the best directors, actors and filmmakers around. Thankfully Chaos Walking and the His Dark Materials TV series look like they're following suit.

I thought that the mockingjay films were much worse than the book, especially the first one. They shouldn't have split it into 2 films, it would have been much better as one.
Also the 4th and 5th mortal instruments books deserve a lot better than 6 out of 10.

As a fan of The Mortal Instruments, Dark Artifices and especially the masterwork called The Infernal Devices, City of Fallen Angels and City of Lost Souls felt like pure filler that did nothing to advance the plot-- MUCH more so that the Mockingjay films, despite some excellent character moments and lots of glorious Simon (who is so similar to me and so relatable it's insane).

The only other thing I'll say regarding Mockingjay-- and while I was aware that this was an unpopular opinion, as with all instances of saying the movie was better than the book, I hadn't the faintest notion that I'd get as much vitriol as I did-- is that as good as the book was, it was rushed. The movie rightfully slowed down the pace to make room for more character moments and additional points of view. President Snow has plenty of truly phenomenal moments he wasn't given in the book in particular. There was more room for depth and emotion.

Harry Potter and The Hunger Games were the only ones that were really great and did the books proud. I'm hoping Mortal Engines and Chaos Walking join them.

On the other side of the coin you guys left out Hollywood's butchery of The Dark Is Rising, The Golden Compass and The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch (the movie was called Seventh Son).

There's also Down A Dark Hall coming out on the 17th this month. It is based on Down a Dark Hall by Lois Duncan, the author of bestseller I Know What You Did Last Summer which inspired the hit 1997 horror movie starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
