Angela M I’d love the ability to add book links and reply to specific posts. Are these being considered for a future update to the apps?

This update is nice but does little to improve the functionality of the apps.
Thanks

Agnes Like this....waiting for the android version

message 3: by Francesco (new)

Francesco Is it possible to set the want-to-read shelf to another exclusive shelf?
I use the to-read shelf for listing books I have and I want to read, and the wishlist shelf for those I want to read but don't own, so this setting would be useless to me.

message 4: by MischaS_ (new)

MischaS_ That looks awesome! Cannot wait for the Android one!

message 5: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Kelsey For the love of all that is holy, please fix the terrible Android app. The iOS app is nearly perfect, and the Android app is basically unusable.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll never understand why every business kowtows to Apple, with their 20-30% market share, and takes on Android only later, despite their 70-80% market share. Why not make the bigger market happy first?

Ana Vizentim Waiting for the android version!!!!! The current one is terrible!!! ;(

Jaclyn Thanks for all the comments regarding our Android app – we're hard at work on improving this so stay tuned!

Angela M wrote: "I’d love the ability to add book links and reply to specific posts. Are these being considered for a future update to the apps?

We're aware that some of our users would like to see these capabilities added – we'll be sure to add your name to that list.

Francesco wrote: "Is it possible to set the want-to-read shelf to another exclusive shelf?"

I can definitely see how useful that option could be! I'll let the team know that you've put this suggestion forward.

You can make a custom shelf, then set it to exclusive, and that means that they will only be in one of the upper shelves (such as the to-be-read, currently-reading, read, etc. shelves). You can make as many of those as you'd like.

Half stars??

message 15: by Yaaresse (new)

Yaaresse The app is looking (and, more importantly, working) great. I do wish there was the ability to adjust font size from within the app, I've got font cranked large in general settings, but with every update, it gets smaller in the GR app.

Any thought to eventually using 3D touch so that pressing on a book will pop up the synopsis as we browse lists?

message 16: by Irena (new)

Irena Android users are waiting for user-friendly app for so long - it's due time!

message 17: by Topher (new)

Topher Colin was going to jump up and down about an android version... but i see my work has been done for me, thanks everyone. so now i wait... not-so-patiently... also, half stars for reviews, on all platforms - that's some serious functionality i want.

message 18: by Ashley (new)

Ashley W I wish you would spend some time on the Android app. It's pretty lacking :( Feels like us Android users are always getting left behind.

message 19: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Kelsey The iOS app is perfect. Goodreads have made massive leaps in functionality in that app over the years. Functionality that is desperately needed in the android app:

- Being able to view all editions of a book
- Searching just items on your own shelves
- Speed, it is so unbelievably slow compared to the iOS app.
- Improve cover/barcode scanning

Really if there is a way to just make the Android app exactly like the iOS app, that would be perfect.

I switched to an Android device last year and am totally appalled at how terrible the GR app is. I even tried the Beta app for a while, and it's just awful. Not an improvement at all.

message 20: by William (last edited Mar 20, 2018 11:43AM) (new)

William Can you copy text and links in the app yet?

Until you can copy text and links, I will stick with browser-GR.

It is much more complicated to deploy a quality Android app for the simple reason that there are infinitely more models to test and develop for. Whereas, Apple has a relative handful.
The OS versions are another factor. Android updates are locked down by carriers and OEMs, and so it tends to lag behind adoption rate with new versions.
So Android developers have to accommodate for way more hardware specifications and different (old and new) versions.

I completely feel your pain. I was in the Windows Phone group that never got a Goodreads app.

message 24: by Reforming (new)

Reforming Irritating that it is not available on Android.

message 25: by Nadine in NY (new)

Nadine in NY Jones Seriously, I don't need a new way to search. I can find books to read quite easily.

I want to be able to: use the add book/author widget on the app, see spoilers on the app, reply to comments on the app, like comments, easily delete books from my shelves (I admit this is easier on the app than browser), easily remove duplicates on the app, easily add/remove/edit my shelves on the app, easily access and use polls on the app ...

message 26: by Sera (last edited Mar 20, 2018 05:35PM) (new)

Sera It's kind of rude to do a big home page notification about yet another 'fantastic' update to your Apple app. While us Android folks have had to make do for years now with a much crappier version, that can't do basic things, while constantly hearing (for years!) that there is an update coming 'soon'.
I've grown so accustomed to using the website on my phone that you've made it highly unlikely that I'll return to the app version if there will be a new version.

Cassandra wrote: "half stars?"

It has already been mentioned quite a few times that half stars are likely not going to happen.

message 27: by Monica (new)

Monica T. Rodriguez I'd like to add a request to simply see all my shelves on the Android app. It only shows the first 25 or 50, which isn't helpful at all. Then again, improving the Android app overall is way overdue, so I'll take any improvements.

message 28: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 20, 2018 06:46PM) (new)

Still dreaming about the android update ^^

message 29: by Lauren (new)

Lauren I love to use my Groodread's app, but at the same time I wish there was a way for me to actually look at giveaways without going through emails. If there is a way, then wonderful, if not could I request for that feature to be considered.

message 30: by Anita (new)

Anita Elder I hope you update the android version...current version sucks! There are so many online options that aren't available on the app.

message 31: by Anita (last edited Mar 20, 2018 10:38PM) (new)

Anita Elder "On average, Android users spend $11.54 per transaction. iPhone users, on the other hand, spend a whopping $32.94 per transaction. That means iPhone users will spend almost three times as much as Android users when visiting an e-commerce site."
I'd like to see the data behind that statistic! Also, maybe if the android apps were as good or better than the Apple apps, we'd spend more, too.

Ania (mrs.klimas_reads) I am still waiting for Goodreads to show what genre we read most often on the basis of read books :)

Yes, I know.
I was asking about being able to set my own new exclusive shelf as the default "Want to read" shelf for this feature.

message 35: by Nurlan (new)

Nurlan Imangaliyev I've been waiting for Android app update for years, now it hurts to see that I have to wait a little more.

message 36: by Chelle (new)

Chelle It looks sleek and I like some of the new features. But I really liked being able to look through random lists in the old 'explore'. Now I can only see featured lists. Or I guess, just list browsing in general in the app would be nice.

message 37: by Johnny (new)

Johnny Smoked This really looks cool. I like the new interface and design. Using the site has become much more convenient, its lists look at times more pleasant. Not for nothing is the majority of users now using a mobile phone to search for information on the Internet. I'm pleased to see that one of my favorite sites that has been on my bookmarks for a long time keeps up with the trends and makes pleasant updates for its users.

message 38: by Elentarri (new)

Elentarri @Chris - Android users can't very well spend more money on in-app purchases when the app in question is so bad that nobody uses it in the first place.

message 39: by Marina (new)

Marina Vidal Why always the android users have to wait? If you upload a new version do it for both systems.

message 40: by Tom (new)

Tom Polkamp Cool! Now just waiting for the android version!

I find it strange that they don't come with an android version first. Considering that ± 86% of mobile operating systems usage worldwide are android based.

No hard feelings for Goodreads, I love u guys!

message 45: by Courtney (new)

I agree.
Another feature that is needed is the ability to brows the whole series & seeing the numbering of each book within that series

message 47: by Starra (new)

Starra Mary Jean The android app SUCKS. I have it on my Samsung tablet and it is honestly the worst... definitely in need of a major update! I use my iPhone for Goodreads for now, but I'd like to be able to use it on the device I read my ebooks.

message 48: by Aicha (new)

Aicha Happy for IOS readers, but comeon the android app is lacking toooo many features that the ios app already has.
I hope the next android update will try to redeem that.
