“একাত্তর অক্টোবর শেষে নিউইয়র্ক টাইমসের এক সাক্ষাৎকারে প্রেসিডেন্ট ইয়াহিয়া খান বললেন, শেখ মুজিবকে যদি পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে ছেড়ে দেওয়া হয়, সেখানকার জনগণই তাঁকে হত্যা করবে। কি উদ্দেশ্যে এই ভবিষ্যৎবাণী উচ্চারিত, অথচ কি অমোঘ এই বাক্য! ইয়াহিয়া খান নিশ্চয়ই তার আশেপাশের পা চাটা বাঙালী চামচা দেখে বাঙালী জাতি সম্পর্কে একটি সাধারণ ধারণা পোষণ করতেন, বাঙালী গাদ্দার। তাই এমন সহজে বাঙালী জাতিকে পিতৃহন্তা বলেও ভাবতে পারেন তিনি। কি আশ্চর্য এই মূল্যায়ন! নাটোরে যুদ্ধবন্দী পাকসেনাদের সেই চিৎকার এখনও আমার কানে লেগে - 'হম ফির আয়েঙ্গে।'এই চিৎকারকে সেদিন যে সহযাত্রীরা উপহাস করেছিল, তারা আজ কোথায়?
