The Word Divides

Part II
John 1:3-5
"Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it."

John the Apostle who many believe is the one who penned the Gospel of John. John writes what many conclude is an outlandish and absurd statement that "through him all things were made!" The beauty about the God of the Bible is that he allows a person to believe a lie while telling the person the truth. There is tolerance, wooing yet an unyielding righteousness calling for repentance with a temporal patience’s that sets restraining boundaries for His own glory. In other words you can believe the lie but one day you will give an account not to humankind but to the one whom “without him nothing was made.” At this point in our text, we know that God is, whom John claims “made all things.” God does not attempt to prove He made all things, but rather “shines light” on the subject so that you might know. Then God declares, “darkness has not understood it.” The creation of God is in fact, his revelation of Himself to humankind but this light of creation is not “understood” by humankind. The creation of God is just that and is distinct from God and is not God nor to be worshipped. However, John is saying there is other revelation, which is a light of God, “who has life” and “was the light of men.” John records for us the Word of God, which is so powerful that when God said, the heavens and an earth were created. Now the Word of God has come, the light of the world, the life of men to walk among the darkness of humankind. The hope of humankind will be found in Him. John will latter declare clearly the “Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (vs 14) John is declaring that God has walked among us!
