The Word divides
John 1:1,2 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning."
Part I
It is our intention to go through the Gospel of John
"In the beginning", is there a beginning? Our world and John's world debated beginnings, origin, wisdom, the concept of Deity and gods. It is no different now. The beauty is not whether you believe or not, but rather in the amazing mercy of the one who "created a beginning."
John declares in the Gospel there is a beginning but then there is no beginning, "he was God in the beginning." This apparent contradiction is not explained but just stated. "He was with God in the beginning." Before a beginning there was God, “the Word was with God, and the Word was God." In the book of beginning’s (Genesis), it says, "let us create man in our image."(Genesis 1:26) Prior to the beginning, God existed and chooses to reveal Himself, God is one; God, the Word (vs. 17 the Word is identified as Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit (vs. 33, the book of beginnings, Genesis 1:2 “the Spirit of God hovered over the waters). This is amazing; God chooses to reveal to us Himself, “God is love” which can be defined as God’s self-revelation. God chooses to make Himself known to us.
“In the beginning” there was harmony; God spoke face to face with Adam. However, the unthinkable occurred Adam rejected the Word of God and so going forward, a chasm existed that humankind could not cross. John is writing to his readers that God is ready to once again restore what had been lost in Adam’s transgression. God is ready to do a new work, to recreate a new beginning.
