The Word Divides
Part III
John 1:6-9
I believe the Word teaches that when a person dies and arrives in the presences of God, the glory of God will cause the person to merely bow and confess that Christ is Lord. The person will hear either "depart from me I never knew you" and cast into Hell or "well done good and faithful servant" and join’s the crowd of believers to worship God forever. However, I suppose many will be tempted to think that somehow when that day comes they will be able to talk their way into heaven or make excuses like "no one ever told me about Jesus."
John the Apostle who is an eye witness of Christ writes as a witness and verifies the veracity of what he communicates by informing his readers of another eye witness, satisfying the law of God (the two witness rule Deuteronomy 17:6; 19:15). John the Apostle reminds his readers of “a man who was sent from God: his name was John.” This witness was prophesied to come by the prophets, Isaiah and Malachi (Isaiah 40:3, Malachi 3:1). This witness comes as foretold by God.
The primary role of John (latter called the Baptist) was to “testify concerning the light.” John the Apostle as does John the Baptist wants everyone to know neither are the “light of men.” Who then is the “light of men”? John the Apostle’s primary role is revelatory, along with the other Apostles to bring to completion the Word of God, the bible. The whole of scripture answers the question of who is the “light of men.” Our current study is focused on the gospel of John though, so we will primary look at what John writes. The Apostle makes it clear that the only reason he and the Baptist believe is that “the true light” has given them “light”. The Johns do not have power to birth life in themselves or others. “Life” and “Light” is found outside of humankind, life resides in God. It is God who “gives life and light.” Apart from God, bringing life, recreating spiritual dead people there is no hope. John the Apostle and John the Baptist are not only witnesses in the sense of testifying (word) the “true light” is coming and has come but they are also living examples of those who have received the "light" and display the light in living (deed). The two Johns then testify in word and deed.
God sends the “true light so that through him all men might believe.” The only hope for the world is the “true light” no other hope exist not technology, money or religion or ANYTHING ELSE. God sends the Johns so that you might know the “true light.” God wants you to know, creation displays his glory and now He is entering the world, the “true light.” No one can say I never knew or that God did not care about them.
