today's xkcd

Today's xkcd, "Flowcharts", made me think of Ivan, and grin.

That would be the adult Ivan, of course. The younger Ivan's thinking was more like a ball of yarn after the kitten had got to it.

Text Addict The Ophidian Index always makes me grin. Funniest workflow management method ever. :)

Andrew Ivan's flow chart would involve more curves.

Mark I've rather enjoyed watching Ivan mature from ne'er-do-well foil-of-Miles to a person in his own right, and his 'shielded' intelligence is perfectly rational, considering how sharp his closest (living) relatives are. We didn't get to see much of Padma; the circumstances of his death made him seem a bit thick-headed, but there were definitely extenuating circumstances, and I don't see Lady Alys having much use for a nincompoop, let alone marrying one; so Padma may have had the same sort of Claudius thing going to try to stay out of the lines of fire around the throne. (Camp stool.)

Karl Smithe I think you are jiving us Lois. Ivan does not really seem as dumb as you have your characters say he is.

Unreliable, or at least biased, narrators. The older characters remember him when he was a feckless youth, and really was that boneheaded; Miles is just jealous.

Think back on yourself, or others you know, in your early teens...

Penny I'm listening to 'Barrayar' for the third time in 5 years, and still loving it. You're the best.

Thanks for the link to XKCD ...
'Fundamental Forces' finally explains why we're a little mushy about modern physics:
