I’m on the bridge near the Meadows, and he’s thrashing in the bloody water. “Jimmy, swim,” I yell.

The roaring waves drown out my screams. Numbness travels through my body from head to toe. My eyes lock in horror on my brother flailing helplessly.

Lights flare behind me, illuminating Jimmy’s car, smashed against the side of the bridge. The windshield’s shattered, but the wipers are still fluttering, trying to move even though they’re stuck to the glass. Below me, icy black waves churn.

“Jimmy, where are you?”

Darkness spreads across the water.
