When poor author behavior reached its peak about several years back, one of my friends and fellow bloggers (I can't remember who, unfortunately), was commenting on how ridiculous it was for authors to obsess over a handful of negative reviews.
She said something to the effect of: "Why do authors only pay any attention to the bad reviews? You never see any authors thanking reviewers for POSITIVE reviews."
That made me think about how we tend to take the positives for granted. Why DON'T authors thank their reviewers--not just for enjoying the book, but also taking the time to write a few nice sentences about it as well?
So that is why I comment on reviews and ratings. Because I want to take the time to show my appreciation for the fact that someone, somewhere, took the time to read my book and didn't hate it.
That's pretty fucking special.
And so are you. ♥
