How awesome is my mum? Rhetorical question.

So my mum hasn't actually read any of my books. Mostly because I won't let her. This one time, when I was about sixteen, she found this thing that I wrote, that may or may not have been an early attempt at m/m dub con, and I don't ever want to have that conversation ever again, thanks.
Anyway...
I told  mum that I was writing a sequel to the as yet unreleased Sweetwater , and she made all the usual noises of encouragement, and then asked me if I'd got a plumber in yet to fix that leaking tap. God, no, okay? Can we just talk about me, please?
I mentioned that the sequel will be from the POV of the cowboy, and this would mean a lot of research since the actual day-to-day activities of cowboys in Wyoming in 1870 are very much a mystery to me. A few days later, this turned up in my house:

How awesome is my mum?

Vanessa North Awwwww, that is so sweet! <3

Tara Spears Oh, that is outstanding! Loved it. Yeah, same issue with my mom. Only she is adamant about reading Trey Grey, and I keep telling her; Please don't, you won't understand...

By the way, if you need any help with cowboy stuff, I grew up a cowgirl... barrel racing, roping, rodeo, you name it.

Lol, Tara! I'm so glad my mum hasn't pushed the issue. I think my mum and I have a brilliant relationship now (after a rocky period when I was an awful teenager) but I think we need to keep some secrets from each other :)

I may have to contact you re horse questions!

I know, right? I laughed so much when I arrived home to find it -- because of course she also sneaked in with her spare key while I was at work.

Tara Spears Yeah, know about the rocky teen years issues. Been there, but I was an angsty teen if there ever was one. NOT a good girl at all! I think that is why I can write what I do without blushing... most of the time.

Ask away on horse, ranch, rodeo, or cowboy issues. It has been my life since I was eight.

Awilk -never sleeps- Will you share your mum with me? No matter how old we get we still need one, and I miss mine terribly as she lives so far away.

I think I could give you a run for your money when it comes to the horrible teen years! And I will definitely keep you in mind for all my horse questions :)

My mum lives five minutes away from me. I don't think I could cope if she lived any further away, because we see each other most days. Funny turnaround, given I was sure her only purpose when I was a teenager was TO RUIN MY LIFE!

Awilk -never sleeps- When we are teenagers it is a parents job ruin our lives. I am a bit jealous of you having your mum so close.

The best part about it is that I often come home after working off shifts to find she's left food in my fridge...or picture books about cowboys on my bench. She really is the best!

Josephine (biblioseph) Is it a bad thing that I actually want to read Imagine You're a Cowboy! ?

I am anticipating your review.

OMG Josephine! It's so good! Just for a second there, I really DID imagine I was a cowboy!

You probably knew this, but I recently found out that Cowboys were originally black slaves, hence the 'boy'. Seems like 1870s might be a little more diverse though.

Yeah, post civil-war is definitely more diverse than that. Also, my cowboy is technically more of a rustler!

Nope, I've officially passed my depth. I am reading a fun Western at the moment though. :P Looking forward to soaking up some knowledge via context!
