This book covers the whole story of Judith McCain—all five Judith McCain thrillers in order: from age fifteen when she is a scared runaway, to age thirty-seven when she is an established psychologist working for the FBI.

Again, a tightly woven, many layered plot entertains us as the Imperium’s reluctant saviour embarks on a desperate, dangerous plan. Characters – cunning, treacherous, loyal and brave – perform the actions and win the reader’s and each other’s disgust or admiration. In this novel, even more than the others, it seems that strong females emerge, which is perhaps fitting as the need to save and nurture the remnants of humanity becomes more pressing. The surviving friends from the first ‘Dark Pilgrim’ adventure are scattered, yet still bonded together, a tiny focus of hope for the future. I am glad to state that this book, like the whole series, is a must read.

SHADOW TAG by Marjorie Doering

OLD HOPE ROAD by Matthew Carvalho

Dominic Mercy, an orphan of humble beginnings, lives in a world where anonymity is anomaly and the network is ubiquitous. Defense Attaché to the Office of the President, he juggles eco-terrorism, blackmail and conspiracy, and revenge, as a backdrop to his search not simply for acceptance, but for kin, and recognition. Matthew Carvalho self-published author and OLD HOPE ROAD and SOL are his two full length novels through the CreateSpace. His primary influences include Frank Herbert, Iaian Banks, Joseph Campbell, Greg Bear, and Neal Stephenson. He has a BA in International Relations from San Francisco State University and a Masters in Diplomacy/Global Commerce from Norwich University. He has been, in turn, a children’s counselor for emotionally disturbed children, a US Peace Corps Volunteer, and currently works as a manager for a Silicon Valley medical equipment manufacturer. He lives with his wife Norma (to whom OLD HOPE ROAD is dedicated) and their three dogs, Elsa, Arni and Figaro in the city of Gilroy, California. His primary hobby, after his wife and dogs, is, oddly enough, writing; although Facebook and Twitter probably come in a close second – just ask his wife!
