Global pop sensation Chappell Roan marks a new career high this week with new single “The Subway”, out now on Amusement / Island Records, landing at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not only is “The Subway” Roan’s highest charting debut yet but it's also the second highest streaming debut of 2025 on Spotify and joins certified mega-hits “Pink Pony Club”, “Good Luck, Babe!” and “The Giver” as the fourth single from the Missouri native to reach Top 5 on the Hot 100 over the past year. Additionally, Roan scored the coveted #1 debut on the UK Singles Chart, making her the only artist in 2025 with two #1 placements. “The Subway” debuted at #1 on both the US and Global Spotify single charts, amassing over 73,605,689 global streams to date, while the official video has been the #1 trending music video on YouTube since release.

On the heels of this exciting news comes the announcement that Roan has officially sold out all dates for her Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things all ages US pop-up shows this fall in New York, Los Angeles and Kansas City, Missouri. The previously announced pop-up shows include a four-night takeover at Forest Hills Stadium in Forest Hills, NY on September 20th, 21st, 23rd, and 24th, crossing the midwest with a two-night stay in Kansas City, Missouri at the Museum and Memorial Park on October 3rd and 4th; and wrapping with two nights at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA on October 10th and 11th. As with previous Chappell Roan headline shows, $1 from every ticket sold will be donated to organizations that provide support and resources for trans youth.

In celebration, Roan has released an additional run of the limited edition copper metallic 7” vinyl that sold out instantly upon announcement, featuring “The Subway” (Side A) and previously unreleased “I Hate It Here”(demo) (Side B).

A gut-wrenching ballad that fans have been clamoring for since she began performing it live last summer, “The Subway”, produced by and co-written with Daniel Nigro, is another immaculately crafted home run that puts Roan’s once-in-a-generation talent at the forefront. The song tells the story of the quiet heartbreak of literal and metaphorical missed romantic connections and the pain that endures through the small daily reminders everywhere. Lyrically at her utmost vulnerable, Roan cleverly captures the disorienting grief of moving on with some of her most heart-felt songwriting yet and a vocal performance that defies any expectations. Her flair for the dramatic reverberates as her gentle soprano musings turn into full volume iconic catchphrases, “I made a promise, if in four months this feeling ain’t gone, well f*ck this city, I’m moving to Saskatchewan!”. Fans started to catch on that the long awaited single would soon be released as posters, murals and red tresses were spotted around New York last week and a video of a moving truck in Saskatchewan went viral.

Alongside the song is Roan’s most ambitious official video yet, shot on location in Manhattan, New York. Directed by Amber Grace Johnson (Jorja Smith, FKA Twigs, Lolo Zouaï), “The Subway” video is a high-camp love letter to New York and the one that got away, all shot on 35mm film. Throughout the video, Roan’s famous red locks are shed, exposing the lovelorn singer in iconic New York moments, doing anything but blending in and literally getting dragged. On the subway she sees ghosts of her past and visions of her future self; in the outside world, she is plagued with garbage and rats but still remains in pursuit of that once special feeling.

Roan shares, “The cliche of “the girl that got away” barely scratches the surface for me with this song. I wrote it as I was stumbling around New York with a broken heart and I kept envisioning us on every street, fire escape, coffee shop, park and yes… the subway.“

“The Subway” follows Roan’s hotly anticipated 2025 single “The Giver”, a queer country anthem that debuted earlier this year at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart. First performed at her Saturday Night Live debut performance, the track arrived with a hotline teaser, national billboard campaign, and limited-edition vinyl series showcasing Roan in various over-the-top service roles – from plumber to private investigator - and landed NPR’s #1 spot ranking the best performances from the 50th anniversary season.

The character of Chappell Roan, in all her fabulous glory, truly began to take shape with 2020’s “Pink Pony Club,” a song about a small town girl who finds belonging at a West Hollywood go-go bar that was inspired by Chappell’s real-life experiences in LA. Roan’s ascent to the top felt quick to some, but “Pink Pony Club” finally reached #1 at Pop Radio on its five-year anniversary of release and has become a defining part of her story. A critical smash, Roan’s debut album The Rise And Fall of a Midwest Princess (Amusement / Island Records) established Roan as a breakthrough singer, songwriter and performer who could combine fantasy with self-reflection, with songs like “Casual”“Red Wine Supernova”“HOT TO GO”“My Kink Is Karma”“Naked In Manhattan”“Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl” and “Kaleidoscope”. It was her 2024 single “Good Luck, Babe!” that helped catapult her into an entirely new stratosphere immediately upon release, ultimately helping her earn the 2025 Grammy for Best New Artist. Her highly conceptual theatrics and costumes for both live shows and performances on SNL, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and the 2024 MTV VMAs set the internet alight. A larger-than-life performer inspired by drag and burlesque, Chappell Roan has a reputation for making every show into a dance party that everyone wants to join.

This new run of US shows marks Roan’s first headline dates since her record-breaking 2024 festival season, where she drew some of the largest crowds at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Bonnaroo, Gov Ball and more. She recently headlined Primavera in Barcelona and is set to headline Reading & Leeds Festivals and Edinburgh Summer Sessions, after appearances at Øya Festival, Way Out West and upcoming appearances at Pukkelpop, Lowlands Festival, Rock En Seine, Electric Picnic and more.
