Don't Look Now by
Daphne du MaurierMy rating:
5 of 5 starsIf I could describe Daphne du Maurier, it would be "polished." Daphne du Maurier is one of the finest writers in all of literature.
This collection of short stories,
Don't Look Now, obviously stands squarely on the foundation of "The Birds," but the other stories each have their own unique merits.
Weighing in at 80 pages, "Monte Verita" was my favorite story. It is not often that writing brings me to tears, but "Monte Verita" certainly moved me to tears. If I could offer a reading tip, after finishing "Monte Verita," return to the beginning of the story and re-read the narrators three theories.
La Sainte-Vierge was short but sweet, and the luxurious, refined milieu descriptions of the dry and desperate village made me feel like I was part of the scene.
