I couldn't slog through another chapter. The author has to repeatedly tell the reader in blatant text what the characters are meant to be feeling, because he is unable to convey emotion through actions.
For example, the reader is constantly told that the main character is lonely, unhappy, jaded, but by all accounts he lives a fulfilling life, has many friends, a nice apartment, and a great job. He describes Myriam's leaving as "a nightmare," but he didn't do anything that even vaguely resembled caring for her.
The political predictions are interesting, especially because some have come to fruition, but the overarching plot isn't enough to save the poor character development.
