Is it too early to ask about the third book? I only ask because I've been burned by George R.R. Martin and Patrick Rothfuss.

Book 2 - submitted for editing - probably release in 2025
definitely no GRRM/Rohthfus vibes here.
Let's gooo, so hyped for this! I finished WotM earlier this year as my first exposure to your work and then started Licanius right after. Just finished that trilogy last week and so ready for more from ya.

I am finishing up the Mistborne series, but it’s just not the same.
Have you tried the Shadowmarch trilogy by Tad Williams? It also has complex characters and world building, although I would put the writing style as a little more traditional fantasy. They're a little dark, though they precede the moniker of dark fantasy. You could also give Michael J, Sullivan's Legends of the First Empire a try. Although he has a more basic writing style, he's one of my favorites. Reading all the way through to the current books is quite a blast. Currently there's like 13, but each series is contained as its own, though they're all connected.
There is also Jany Wurtz's Wars of Light and Shadow series, which has just been concluded, and she has a trilogy Cycle of Fire which I utterly adored.

If you liked Mistborn, Stormlight Achive (also by Sanderson and same universe (Cosmere) but more dense fantasy. They are big books but the conclusion of the first major arc (Book 5) drops in December.
