Hierarchy Update - June 2021
Hey everyone,
June's progress update for Hierarchy Book 1 is up - the short version is that the last three months have gone really well, and I should be submitting it to the publisher soon. Looking forward to everyone finally being able to read it. On the home stretch now!

Hierarchy Update - September 2021
Hey everyone, the latest progress report for The Will of the Many is up on the website!
Click here for the full report
The short of it is that the manuscript's been submitted for editing - I'm very happy with how it's turned out. It's a touch over 250k words long (for reference against the Licanius books, it's longer than either Shadow or Echo, not quite as long as Light). We're also looking at a Spring (US) 2023 release window. A while away, I know. Sorry!
Hope you're all doing well and staying safe.

Hierarchy Update - December 2021
Hey everyone,
Just a quick end-of-year update on where I'm at with the Hierarchy series - short version is that I'm waiting on edits to come back for The Will of the Many, but have started work on Book 2 (The Strength of the Few) in the meantime. All said in slightly more verbose form here, for the especially curious.
For anyone who missed the last update, the current aim is to be publishing The Will of the Many in Spring (US) 2023.
Wishing everyone a great Christmas and holiday break - I'll post another update in a few months!

Hierarchy Update - March 2022
Hey everyone,
We're already a quarter of the way through 2022! Not a lot to tell, but for those interested, my latest progress update for The Strength of the Few is now up on the website.
No news regarding a firm release date for The Will of the Many as of yet, I'm afraid, but I expect that will change over the coming months. I'll post here as soon as I know more!

The Will of the Many - Audiobook info
Hey everyone,
We now have some audiobook details for The Will of the Many!
First off, I'm pleased to officially announce that the audiobook will launch on the same date as the hardcover and ebook: May 23, 2023. It's available for pre-order here.
Secondly, the voice for this series will be Euan Morton, a fantastic narrator who's also an experienced stage actor (he's currently on Broadway playing King George in the musical Hamilton). I couldn't be happier with this casting - after listening to a lot of candidates, he was far and away my first choice.
(I know I'll get asked this a lot, so for those wondering: I did chat with the good folks at Audible about potentially getting Michael Kramer, who did such a brilliant job with Licanius, on board. However this series is stylistically different - it's written from the first-person perspective of a seventeen year old - and we eventually came to the conclusion that Michael's voice, as great as it is, simply wasn't the right fit for that sort of role.)
It's early days and so the audiobook length isn't known just yet, but the print book's word count is roughly on par with that of An Echo of Things to Come, which turned out to be a touch over 26 hours in audio. I'd expect something similar for The Will of the Many.
Finally, for anyone waiting on reviews, some lovely early ones have started coming in over the past couple of weeks - you can find many of them here on the book's Goodreads page if you're interested.
As always, thanks for reading - that's about it for now - release day's getting close!!

'The Will of the Many' releases today!
Hey everyone,
It's finally here! Feels a little surreal after being in the works for so long, but The Will of the Many launches today, May 23rd. I'm incredibly excited for everyone to read it.
First off, to anyone who's already pre-ordered or is intending to pick it up shortly, thank you - sincerely - early sales are a big deal, and I can't overstate how much I appreciate the trust you're placing in me as an author.
Secondly, for those interested, I had a couple of spoiler-free chats about The Will of the Many, Licanius, and writing in general last week. Links to the YouTube videos below!
Petrik Leo
Fantology
And if you've been waiting on more reviews for The Will of the Many, there's now a reasonable sample size up here on Goodreads - and no doubt plenty more to come in over the next few days.
Finally, some requisite links if you'd like to pick up a copy:
Amazon
B & N
Audible
(Though naturally, if you have the opportunity to pick it up at your local bookstore instead, please support them by doing so!)
Before I go, a quick update on the sequel - my second draft of The Strength of the Few is at about 90k words (which is a bit over 1/3rd complete), and it's shaping up nicely. I'm confident that it's on track for publication in 2024.
And that's about it from me! As always, thanks so much for reading. I hope to see you all enjoying The Will of the Many very soon!
All my best,
- James

Hierarchy Update - December 2023
Hey everyone,
Just a quick update before I clock off for 2023! A bit of a rough few months (illnesses and injuries) to finish the year, which means I'm not quite as far along with The Strength of the Few as I'd hoped, but there's been progress nonetheless. More detail over on the website - but the gist is that I'm pleased with how things are shaping up, and still very much on track to submit to my publisher in Q1 next year.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season, and I hope to have some good news for the next update in March!

Hierarchy Update - March 2024
Hey everyone,
A quick progress report for March is now up on the website: my estimate from December did turn out to be a bit(!) optimistic, but everything’s been smooth sailing otherwise. In all, it's really been a pretty good few months of writing - I continue to be happy with how The Strength of the Few is shaping up, and I should be handing it in to the publisher for edits sometime in May!

Hierarchy Update - June 2024
Hey everyone,
Just quickly, my progress update for June is up on the website - The Strength of the Few has now been submitted for editing! I'm really happy with where it's at; all’s moving along smoothly and once edits are complete, we should start to get a firmer picture of the timeline to publication.
