Penric and the Bandit vendor page description

...AKA what would be the back cover blurb if this were a paperback.

Strange company…

When Rozakajin, road-weary bandit and army deserter, spots a hapless blond young man in a country inn with an intriguing treasure map, he thinks he’s scouted an easy and lucrative victim. Attaching himself to odd traveler Penric seems simple enough, but when Roz’s old enemies catch up from behind, his plans take a turn for the much worse. When Pen’s claim that I never travel alone proves true in ways Roz never imagined, his world becomes more frightening still—but also much wider than he’d ever dared to dream.

The internal chronological order of the Penric & Desdemona tales is presently:

“Penric’s Demon”
“Penric and the Shaman”
“Penric’s Fox”
“Masquerade in Lodi”
“Penric’s Mission”
“Mira’s Last Dance”
“The Prisoner of Limnos”
“The Orphans of Raspay”
“The Physicians of Vilnoc”
The Assassins of Thasalon
“Knot of Shadows
“Demon Daughter”
“Penric and the Bandit”

The first week of July has firmed up for the e-publication date, if all goes smoothly, on our 4 main platforms Kindle, Nook, Kobo, and Apple Books.

In other good news, Blackstone has picked up the novella. (Possibly the fastest turn-around time between submission and acceptance ever, but we did give them a heads-up some weeks ago.) Narrator is planned to be Grover Gardner again. Blackstone likes to be able to release their audio versions simultaneously with the print/pixel publication, but our quick epub makes that too tight to be possible. They will be moving production right along though, I understand. I'll post the firm release date when I get it. (Blackstone has done a great job in selling my big backlist with them. I do need to do my part with energy-infusions of new work now and then.)

Jerri Wow!!! Rozakajin is in for some surprises! I have questions, of course, but with apparently less than 2 weeks to wait, I think I will let the text answer them.

Snonono Vibrating in excitement for this! Also looking forward to Grover Gardner's smooth narration as always.

message 3: by Bo (new)

Bo Lindbergh Safe prediction: Roz and Pen use very different definitions of "treasure".

Bebe Most excellent synopsis! Pre-ordered

Well, we don't offer pre-ordering, it being such a short time between finishing the story and e-publishing. Folks will just have to remember it for themselves until next week.

Jonathan Palfrey Fascinating. You keep coming up with entirely new kinds of experiences for Penric.

Nancy “hapless blond young man” (snort)

My creative brain dislikes repeating itself. And some readers dislike an author repeating as well, and say so.

An equally vocal cadre of readers do want more of the same. It makes for a tricky balance to strike. Protean characters like Miles or Penric, who can carry many kinds of story, make it possible. (Some characters only have one story in them, once and done, and resist sequel-izing.)

A fictional detective tends to spend his or her time investigating one murder after another—murder being the favourite crime in fiction.

A fictional sorcerer’s life has more potential for variety, although that’s easier to see after you’ve pointed it out.

I had a clearout of my books some years ago, keeping those that I felt I would want to read again. Looking at what I have left, I'm definitely in the camp of disliking repetition.

Having said that, I have just re-bought some books that I previously had (Babylon 5 spin-offs), but they'll be dropped temporarily the second this e-book comes out. :)

message 12: by Randall (new)

Randall Now knowing it’s Penric’s map, I’m pretty sure the 5-sided location is a temple or something else related to the 5 gods. And it could easily be that things written on the map are in more than one language—say for example Pen is excited to explore a legendary location he’s learned about from a wide variety of sources in multiple languages. Looking forward to the story :)

Lol, the only word in that description that's unequivocally true is "blond". (Considering Des's presence, even "man" is pretty ambiguous.)
