The Curse of Chalion on e-sale for $1.99

The Curse of Chalion ebook is currently on sale for $1.99, wherever HarperCollins distributes: Kobo, Nook, Apple Books, Google Play Books, and Kindle, to name five.

I'd say stock up, but I expect a lot of the readers of this blog already have a copy, so let's go with Tell Your Friends. It's good as either a starter-Bujold or a start-Bujold's-fantasy choice, so they can dive right in without detouring through the reading-order debate.

No, I don't know how long the sale will last. (Nor who at HC decides such things, nor why.) But by all means, take advantage.

Enjoy -- L.

B Keefe "It's good as either a starter-Bujold..." ???

This is my all time favorite book. Bar none. My paperback copy is ratty and the ebook has been read so many times I expect code to showing some wear too :-)

"It's good" my arse... It's literally the best.

Heh. In general, I find new readers will get the best first read if their expectations are not over-inflated or over-shaped going in. Nobody complains about finding a book better than they'd been led to anticipate. So, much as I enjoy the praise, I suspect calibrating for that effect does me more good in the long run (i.e., brings readers back for more.) Just enough persuasion to get them over the hump to try the actual prose...

With the perpetual caveat that every reader will get a different reading experience from the same text, depending on what mental furnishings they bring to it. One can't predict.

Ta, L.

Fair enough. I just needed to get that off my chest ;-) I don't "fanboy" over much but Curse of Chalion is definitely my literary comfort food. Thanks ever so much for Caz the rest of them...

Heck, it was a completely different book the second time through! I went straight to the first page from the last one, and it was a whole different book.
NOT because I didn't follow or understand the first time through, but because I did. Magical.

Steve Lois's books definitely benefit from multiple readings, like most excellent authors.

Steve When I copied this to post on my Facebook page, the links added weird extra text that prevented the links from going anywhere useful. I separately searched each provider and was able to edit in the correct links on my page.

Huh. The links work from here all right. Mysterious.

Jerri The sale price is still good on Amazon US on May 8, so not just one of those one day sales.

Ines Not about the sale but a genuine "fanmail" comment. I accidentally stumbled across a post on the interwebs referencing the Vorkosigan Saga about four years ago and bought one of the books "just to try" on Audible- and that was it, Hooked. Completely. Line and sinker. Being sucked into Miles' vortex in the Warrior's apprentice, crying at the denouement of Mountains of mourning and GASPING when I finally clocked onto the "religious" significance of the 14 chow lines. I am sure my neighbours on the subway must have thought me crazy as I ploughed my way, laughing, nail-biting and grinning, through the series, only to be completely undone by Shards of Honor and Barayar, which I read last.
I have relistened to them so many times, as I find it is like visiting an old friend- but I also appreciate the plotting and the subtexts and little hidden gems (poor Mayhew!) so much more each time.
Thank you, truly, for the hours of joy and fun and for books I can return to over and over again. I don't think words can convey this properly but I wanted to thank you.
(And your reader, Grover Gardner, is a big part of this, too!)
Wishing you all the best,
Bettina

Jerri As of May 29, the sale price is still good on Amazon US. I am guessing now that it will end June 1, but just a guess. I hope the sale has inspired some new readers to discover the 5 gods world.

Laura Piotrowski I think if you have the ebook, you can also get the digital audiobook for much less, too. Lloyd James does a really fine job of narrating the book.

Talli Ruksas I think I just bought it again lol. June 2 and still on sale
