Surround Yourself With Joy – A Look at My Office

My office has changed throughout the years. Sometimes it was nothing more than my lap or a table. After I wrote Dark Prince and Dorchester Publishing, my first publisher, asked for more in the series, I set up an office in my home up on Cobb Mountain. The room I used had been the baby’s room off our bedroom and I kept a treadmill in it. At the time, there was little money for an office or even a proper computer.

Sadly, in 2015 that house, which I’d raised my children in for so many years, burned in a fire in 2015.

In my home in Mendocino I moved around where I wrote for a bit, but had no designated space. I wrote in my bedroom. I worked for a while out of the den, but I really wanted an office that inspired me, so I asked that we empty out an old storage room that was small but led to a balcony and make that an office.

I love my new office! There are lots of windows, lots of light, a lovely view and so much space. I do share it with Brian, my son, but he has his area and I have mine.

Brian and I found ourselves doing a lot of live interviews in the office so Brian got some cameras, lights and recording equipment and we designated certain areas of the office as media areas.

I wanted to have a beautiful background with things that represented myself and my books. I’ve always loved crystals and of course I love Amur leopards so I got a set of crystal leopards to start my collection. From there I expanded to wolves and other animals that represent my books. I have a lovely tea set that I highlight. Most of my readers know I love tea and I collect tea pots.

My office gives me joy and inspires my imagination. I am happy with the different backgrounds we have for media events that we do online.

Barbara Miller Hi, I think it’s wonderful you have such a beautiful space to write your fantastic books!
I love growing things. As I have gotten older, blessed to be 66, I find joy in small things. Just because it’s small doesn’t make it less. I was gifted an aero garden 2 Christmases ago, it’s a hydroponic growing, hmmm, device I guess you could call it. Ha! All I know is I can grow herbs and tomatoes in the winter and that just makes me so happy! I think the lights that are on it help with my seasonal depression too! I am not a winter person in the least and when gray, dark and dreary January comes along I need all the help I can get.
I find joy in trying new recipes and spending time with my Daughter and my 2 beautiful grandchildren.
Life is short. Enjoy each moment as a gift because no matter how crappy things are or how I feel about the world, I try to find the gifts of joy in every day things and moments..
There are so very many. 💝

Adaiah Your office is beautiful with the natural light, beautiful crystals leopards and a beautiful tea set makes it perfect.

I love fresh cut flowers which I purchase weekly. Waking up and seeing flowers in a beautiful vase makes me smile every morning.

I love reading your comment. It makes me happy when I see other people's joy. And I agree, small things can be just as joyful and important as bigger things.

Thank you! I think people should always surround themselves with whatever brings them joy.

Carol L Cridge I love looking at what inspires others-Your office is so artfully done and beautiful to look at. I am so opposite of that- My house is dark, my rooms are dark, I use candlelight and small twinkle lights everywhere. If I want sunlight I go outside, LOL. Pictures, notes, and reference pages are plastered all over the walls in my office/space off the kitchen. (Gotta be close to those snacks) There are bins with more notes and filings I keep handy if I need to reference something. I love birds, horses and motorcycles so statues or pics of them are scattered about. Your books are everywhere too, My chaotic bliss!

Amanda Bhear Your office is amazing! I'm happy for you that you have a place to make your own. I agree with you on crystals, they are so cool! If I had a place to put them I would have a lot. I have seen so many crystal dragons, fairies, butterflies, Horses & castles I would have loved to have taken home, but because I had no place to put them they stayed at their shop. I have several little pewter statues with crystals that I just had to have but that was all I room for. I'm glad you have a place for you inspiration, then share your amazing world with the rest of us. Thank you for that.

Helia Nanashi i love my tea pots and tea collection too, but they tend to stay down in the kitchen because i do use them. My room right now is in limbo (because that's kind of where I am at the moment) I love my rubber duck collection, right now I have a few. I want enough to go across my dresser, and oddly enough; I'm making progress. (if it weren't so dark in my room i'd show pics)

but right now, that's what i'm into. Hand painted rubber duckies. They will be going into my bathroom when i get a place of my own (if i ever do)
