Uncle Hugo's now open at new location

As seen here:

Because of the way the streets are cut up it will be a challenge to get to, first time -- Google maps is your friend.

In his newsletter owner Don Blyly writes:

"We’ve been open to the public since August 14 at 2716 E. 31st St., but at reduced hours, and we have been accepting donations of books but have not been buying used books. ... We will be closed on Labor Day. The day after Labor Day we will go to our regular hours of 10 am to 6 pm Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 pm Sundays. We will also start buying used books, but with certain exceptions. ...

Some people have complained that they couldn’t find us, often calling from their car which was in front of the store. [Snip long tale about delays in getting signage.] I hope that sometime in September the new Uncles sign will be on the west wall and sometime in October the new awnings will be installed. Until then, look for the Glass Endeavors signage to find the Uncles."

Dorkas Just for your information, when I try to use the link or access the page unclehugo.com, DreamHost tells me that it isn't found. It might be because I'm trying to reach it from Germany, but normally I have no problem accessing international sites - if they work and aren't blocked for international traffic. Just to let you know that there might be a bug in there or a letter missing.

Huh. The link worked for me just now. Mysterious.

Does anyone with more computer savvy have a suggestion?

The other thing to try from your end would be to search the full name of the bookstore, and see what links you get offered. Uncle Hugo's Science Fiction Bookstore Minneapolis should be enough.

Dorkas I googled it, got the link via Google - and it still doesn't work for me. If it works for ou, it really might have something to do with having ticked some option of not being accessable from Germany. It sometimes happen to me when accessing foreign webpages, but just in about 0.5% of all cases, so I guess it is some block from the site's owner, maybe one not set on purpose, but I'm no computer wizard either.

Bjut thanks for the full name, this way I could take a look in reality whenever I come again to the USA.

Shane Castle @Dorkas: I experienced frustrating geofencing when I was an expat living in Germany (what!? I can't access my SSA account? WTF?). The solution is almost trivial: subscribe to a VPN service. The one I used (and still do sometimes) is ExpressVPN. Using it, you can use a VPN server inside the country you are being geofenced from and thereby circumvent their attempt to block you.

When I was running IT security for my last organization I did not geofence; I used other criteria to block unwanted connections. (I don't know what they're doing now - I'm retired and have no desire to go back to that stressful life.)

Dorkas @Shane: Thanks for the info. I've just had the vage idea that there might be geofencing involved, but being just a normal user, I wasn't sure if that might be the problem or me just "paranoid". ;-) VPN does sound like the obvious solution. I'll take a look at ExpressVPN. Thanks a lot!
