Bujold reading-order guide, again

My periodic post of my suggested reading-order guide for all my books, useful to new folks just wondering whether, and how, to dive in, and to those who wish to help them do so. Feel free to repost the link wherever those questions occur. Updated to the current latest work.

For an added bonus, here's a link to my compact awards bibliography, likewise useful as an answer to the oft-encountered question "Louis who?"

Jessie I adore your body of work and was thrilled to discover you're still publishing material set in the World of the Five Gods. I am burning through the Penric tales. Just wanted to thank you for providing empathy, solace, and joy in a difficult time. Very appreciated.

Sandy It would be nice if Apple could get the book orders corrected! I can't imagine what is going on with their lists on their book app. Last I looked they had things so mixed up that they listed books in which certain characters are married as coming before the books in which those same characters first meet!! (This specific example pertains to the Vorkosigan series which also notably inexplicably stops at "Diplomatic Immunity") I will certainly recommend this link and I warn anyone looking not to go by the Apple books ordering numbers!

Th reading-order guide is replicated in the back of every. single. one. of my indie-published ebooks; I've no idea why more people aren't finding it. To be fair, one must have purchased at least one book first, which doesn't help the newbie trying to decide which, if any, to buy at the outset.

We did shift the books-by list to the front matter, but again, folks have to access the look-inside or free sample features to see it. Horse, water, drink...

Sandy Yes, your efforts to overcome confusion and ignorance are extensive and laudable. My thought was it is too bad other parties (here, the apple books platform) don't make use of that copious information and instead seed greater confusion by presenting the books with absurd numberings. They don't even list a #1! They start with "Falling Free" as #2! Luckily as far as I can tell they only present their personal numbering system under certain conditions. If someone searches for just your name for instance, they are presented with a random thubnail list of your books without numbers. But if someone searches, for instance, for "Vorkosigan series" or similar that the books come with the "apple" numbers. Wherein, "Shards" is listed as "Book #3 of the Vorkosigan saga" but only once you click for more info before purchase. In thumbnail some books are listed as "Vorkosigan Saga" and those have the numbers when you click on them. I think the Penric series numbers are thankfully more accurate but I haven't checked completely. As you note, with so much information within the books themselves, this is thankfully only potentially an issue for certain first time readers just stumbling on the series. And honestly, considering that the vast majority of readers are likely started based on the recommendations of someone who is already a fan, they likely have already been informed where to begin if such a thing matters to them. So it perhaps matters little. But errors, though minor, have their way of nagging attention sometimes. My position, is that Apple has done a poor job of things. Perhaps as a typo ridden imperfect person I don't have much room to talk, but I prefer to go ahead and get things out into the universe. You never know when something may snowball into some sort of action. (albeit, preferably not into self-destructive avalanches)

Tas le Fay I LOVE that you do this, thank you!!!

Also, I dearly wish the rest of the Penric novellas would have paperback copies - either a collection (already have the Baen books) or individual (Demon, Shaman, and Mission ebooks had particularly beautiful covers!) I don't mind I just need to have them in physical form.

Sandy Reply to Tas: You can get physical copies of the Penric books from Subterraneanpress.com. It helps to join a mailing list and get early notifications because the books often sell out quickly, especially the numbered signed editions. Those are all new copies of course. You may also find nice copies at Hugo's, and those you can often get signed by the author as well.

The third paper Penric collection, to be titled Penric's Labors, will be out from Baen at the end of this year or early next. Meanwhile, yes, the SubPress collectibles are lovely.

Hugo's has some titles that SubPress is sold out of; inquire. Some may be at a higher price to match the current secondary market bid-ups. ("The Flowers of Vashnoi", ferex, which seems to have been under-printed.) Amazon's "available from these other sellers" feature can be eye-opening in that regard.
