who are they?
it’s been a long time… i’m sorry. (actually i’m not, blurting out apologies is a habit many of us have adopted out of insecurity, and we have become oblivious to it. we can only stop that by pausing for just a moment in the middle of our busy day, to become aware of the little traits our character picks up along the way.) anyway, the purpose of this blog is to question who and what we refer to as ‘they’.
you’ve obviously heard someone say, “don’t do that because they say…” or “they say we have to…” guilty? it’s funny because it’s something we do almost subconsciously. you’ve got to start questioning everything you’re quick to believe. unless, you’re content marching alongside those headed towards a dead end.
i wrote a poem; it was for ms. Devindree Pillay but i will gladly share it right after i tell you what inspired me. short story: during a friendly discussion about university, i blurted out something ‘they say’. immediately, she stopped me to ask, who are they? i was surprised, until i realized… i don’t know who they are. she said i should write about it; so here goes:
“who are they
these people
you hear things from
you read about
who are they
the ones you talk about
they tell you this and that
but always seem to sell you short
who are they
to steal your dreams
to speak of things
they are not experienced in
who are they
to plague your thoughts
with distorted memories
and superstitions
ask yourself
who are they
to forge your beliefs
into their opinion
who are they
and why should you
believe anything
they tell you”
think about it, question everything. and if you happen to find out who they are, tell them they’re not you. “Th-Th-The, Th-Th-The, Th-Th… That’s all, folks!”
