The river kept flowing, flooding, serene, feeding every child
Currents of gushing water or arid years of retracted riverside
Part of the unpredictable nature, the river was always silent

April often brought hope, when human civilizations emerged
The river was flowing, farming, grazing, recreation surged
Save the water, pray the river goddess, wise elders urged
Lifeline of animals and humans, the river was always silent

April often brought conflict, cities and towns matured
The river still flowing, greed, ego, everyone was lured
Control the river, take the water, competition allured
Symbol of pride and power, the river was always silent

April often brought treaties, compromise was in the cards
The river barely flowing, its waters were divided by yards
Corporate took some, cities other, river only had discards
Stripped of its glory and beauty, the river was always silent

April now brings death, end of the prosperity in sight
The river is not flowing, barren river bed left and right
When there is no life, all understand the river’s might
Loved again after death, the river will always be silent
