Physicians of Vilnoc from SubPress in July

Cover reveal!

The paper ARCs arrived at my door this morning (advance proofs sent out to reviewers), and the advance order page for this novella has just gone up at Subterranean Press for their limited hardcover edition, so I can finally show you all the wonderful cover art by Lauren Saint-Onge.

Click on the cover to see an enlarged image, which will be worth it.

I had pretty much given up on ever seeing cover art that not only accurately portrayed my characters physically, but also presented the right mood and mode for the story actually behind the cover. This nails both aspects perfectly. It CAN be done! I'm so happy with this cover.

Uncle Hugo's and Dreamhaven bookstores here in Minneapolis will, as usual, have signed trade (regular) editions available for mail order. It's a bit too soon for them to have their web pages for it up, but they'll appear in due course. Projected release date July 31.

Jean I love it! That's just how I imagined Penric.

message 2: by Helen (new)

Helen Garraway Oh my, superb. Looks just like Penric should look. I just bought the hardback compilations, Penric's Travels and Penric's Progress, but I much prefer this cover.

message 3: by Judy (new)

Judy Keys Oh, wow. I clicked through thinking it might not match my own imagining, but... nope, that is absolutely spot-on in both appearance and mood.

message 4: by Softness (new)

Softness Oh wow! What an amazing cover!!! :)

JuaSaysHi Ah! This IS a great cover! I've never understood why publishers don't seem to want accurate pictures. This captures Pen perfectly, both his appearance and his expression. To find himself in his circumstances!

message 6: by Sandy (new)

Sandy I have mine pre-ordered! I am so excited to finally be able to hold the actual book in my hands! Subterranean does such a lovely job too. All the books they have printed have been fabulously soft and absolutely gorgeous.

Sandy I also noticed a new copy of Falling Free is available to order from subterranean, how long has that been available? I don't know how I missed it! Is this the beginning of a reprint of all of the Vorkosigan Series books by Subterranean?

The Falling Free is the old NESFA Press edition; apparently they are now also distributing through SubPress, which may be good for both.

Snonono YES. Finally the cover Penric deservers, kudos to the illustrator!

I always wished the Miles books in English could have been printed with the illustrations by Esad Ribić - the Croatian editions look great even though the early translations... aren't.

Off to cry at the international shipping fees and order anyway.

P.S. Forever regretting I was something like twelve when you came to Zagreb and hadn't read any of your books yet. I adore your work - thank you for writing.

message 10: by Margaret (new)

Margaret Absolutely perfect! Love that book in spite of the direful circumstances. I think because the people are great and so vividly written.
Just got the audio for Masquerade downloaded. Looking forward to hearing it. (Eyesight going. Your books are great comfort.)

message 11: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth McCoy That cover is AWESOME!

message 12: by Talli (new)

Talli Ruksas It's great, especially the look of utter exhaustion but the Orphans covers are still my favorites

message 13: by Norine Luker (new)

Norine Luker There's something special about an author pointing out an illustration as capturing the real look and mood of a book. I bet that illustrator is just beaming! For me, I saw Penric's apparently youthful visage being stretched to the limits by the strain, his determination to somehow find an answer, and of course the despair of the body being carted out as motivation. My favorite aspect of this book was giving Penric a "do-over" of the Martenbridge physician debacle, but you don't quite know from this cover if he will make it through. Excellent work all around! Thank you!

message 14: by Néna (new)

Néna Rawdah It really is the best depiction of Penric, as he must look at first glance. The previous covers did Penric a disservice in favour of showing Desdemona, I thought.
