The Object

...arrived safely today. Very glad I didn't have to hand-carry it through airports.

Self-explanatory label, I think. My earlier post about Nebula Weekend Online is here: https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...

Richard Derus It's beautiful! Is that a florentine cookie up top, the flat amber-colored one? I can't tell when I enlarge it.

Very very happy you've received this accolade. It restores my sense of ma'at.

P.E. Might be a Milky cookie :)

I have no idea what one of those is. Some sort of French goodie? (Although absolutely nothing on Earth's surface can compete for sheer decadent scrummyness with y'all Bretons' kouign amann.)

It's supposed to be a galaxy, done in glitter. This one is not quite as sparkly as some of my prior Nebs, though it would show better with top lighting.

Good planets. Every year the inclusions are slightly different.

Group shot, minus the second Hugo for best series and the new GM Neb, here:

P.E. Somet'ing between a biscuit and a veritable Milky Way? :)

Oh, but that goes without saying, doesn't it? ;P

... And the best ones are said to be baked there, a mere 30-minute drive from Saint-Malo! :)) That's yet to be proven, however! ;)

They're beautiful, and now that I know what it's supposed to be, the galaxy makes perfect sense.

Many happy smiles seeing the awards in a group shot. Thank you.

P.E. Still this is only a "rumour has it that..." ;^) A disgusting kouign amann is hard to come by, be it in the US or in the Heart of Brittany :D

@Lois : Superb group shot indeed, thanks! :)

Sea Bunny Voyager It’s beautiful! Congrats once again :)

(And I want one of those pastries too, dangit.)

Jonathan Palfrey The caption in the photo is unreadable in my browser. When I download the image, it's slightly better, and I can just about read it, with difficulty.

Softness Whoa! That's AWESOME!! :)

Does it light up? I bet it looks pretty neat in the dark with light shining through it.

Nobody has thought of a light-up Nebula yet, but I suppose it could be done. One of those tiny LED lights set in the bottom to shine up through it, and battery...

I once encountered, in a fancy hotel restaurant (on an editor's dime) a between-meals palate cleanser consisting of individually sized carved ice swans housing a hollowed-out lime half holding a bitty scoop of lime sherbet, lit from below with some such tiny light shining up through the ice. Possibly the most memorable presentation ever. We didn't order them; they just swanned in, unasked for. To this day I don't know if they were a regular thing that restaurant did, or spares from a fancy high-powered banquet going on in a private room that our waiter just decided shouldn't be wasted.

Yes, my cell phone shots tend to be a bit shaky. (Essential tremor in my hands, which I don't find essential in the least.) I might retry my tablet camera next occasion I need to photograph something; it seems to do better, though either needs braced. I haven't explored to see if my cell phone camera has a shutter-speed control, but I need to go shorter than 1/250th sec (1/500 used to work) to control the jiggle. Which, of course, has knock-on effects viz exposure.

That sounds so pretty and swantastical. What a fun way to have dessert. :)

Jonathan Palfrey The problem with the text in the photo is mainly because the photo is too small. At that size, I can't even tell whether the text is fuzzy or not. Congratulations on receiving the Object, anyway!

Can't you enlarge it on your device? On a keyboard, hit Ctrl+ On a phone or tablet, select the image and use your fingers to spread it?

Lois, you are not only officially a Grand Master and writer of stories that I enjoy, but your patience with trivial queries is quite amazing.

Yes, it is possible to increase the size of the image that way, but it doesn't increase the number of pixels in the image: it just makes the pixels larger. The underlying size of the image is 304 by 540 pixels, as I discover by saving the image to my hard disk. At that size, the text is not clear, but it's readable with a little effort.

I apologize for bringing this up. You have better things to do.

(I only mention it because it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure this basic trick out -- well, I didn't figure it out, some kind person told me.)
