From Fast Paced Writer to Fast Paced Reader to Slow Burn Writer to Slow Reader

I used to be just a fast paced reader and action scenes mixed with suspense were a must in my writing. But I've started trying to write slow burn type works and I've become a slow reader because of my busy schedule. I think I'm just in a different space in my life where having some moments that are not so tense and fast moving helps keep the balance. I'm still very much a multi-tasker and I still like action with a bit of suspense with my writing and reading. But I am finding that certain slow burn books I like aspects of reading and writing. In writing I get to gradually evolve the mystery or the suspense and even the action in the storylines. I think the slow build up can open up to other types of plot twists on several avenues. Not to say that fast-paced can't do the same. But I think there's something to be said for taking your time.

I agree, with a world full of stress, drama, conflict and overall exhaustion at every turn, sometimes it is wonderful to fall in love with a great book, where it is just life and not all the other crap that happens. I believe everyone needs a little fantasy of happiness at one time or another.

I've always loved books that have a slower pace. The plot moves forward with bits of suspense and mystery interwoven along the way, allowing it to simmer before turning up the heat. Then, as it builds up to a boil. you've got a powerful novel that many times has more impact than the ones written with non-stop action and drama.These quiet novels can seem deceptively simple at first but are capable of much depth.
