A Holy Week Playlist

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN REFERRAL LINKS. IF YOU CLICK THROUGH AND TAKE ACTION, I MAY BE COMPENSATED, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO YOU.

I listen music almost all the time; when I’m working, when I’m running or biking,

when I’m sewing, and definitely when I’m cooking. Making dinner after a day of

mentally wrestling with characters and plots absolutely requires a peppy playlist. And

possibly a few equally peppy dance moves? It’s been known to happen.

My musical tastes are wide and varied. I like Gilbert and Sullivan, Rogers and

Hammerstein. I also like Yo-Yo Ma and Mozart. And the Beach Boys. And Queen.

You’ll find a lot of Christian contemporary music on my Spotify playlist as well.

That’s something I tune into often when I’m working out. Those joyous, hopeful

lyrics lift my spirit as well as my feet.

Holy Week

This is Holy Week. A time when Christians around the globe pause to reflect on the

persecution, death, sacrifice, and salvation of Jesus. Then turn their minds and hearts

toward the celebration of His resurrection and the evidence and import of the empty

tomb.

For followers of Christ, this is the most important week in the entire church

calendar, even bigger than Christmas. People from different Christian traditions

mark this week in different ways. Some will participate in services several times

leading up to Easter Sunday, attending church on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday,

Holy Friday, and Easter Vigil.

I will be attending Holy Friday services at my church this week as well as the Easter

Sunday celebration. But I’m also making Holy Week a time for personal reflection

and renewal by listening to music that reminds me of why Easter matters.

Music For Your Soul

This week my playlist is filled with music that turns my thoughts to the passion and

the promise. The mind-bending, soul expanding love that is the life, death, and

resurrection of Christ. This music summons up so many deep emotions for me. As

I’ve listened, sometimes my eyes have sometimes welled, sometimes my heart has

leapt for joy.

But more than anything, my soul has burned with a deep, abiding gratitude for a

priceless gift so utterly undeserved.

How deep the Father’s love for us.

How vast beyond all measure.

That He should send His only son,

To make a wretch His treasure.

The lyrics to this lovely old hymn, as well as many more contemporary ones, have

filled my ears and resonated in my heart this Holy Week. It’s been a beautiful

experience, one I wanted to share with you, Fierce Friends.
