Flowers of Vashnoi for SubPress

I'm pleased to report that Subterranean Press has contracted to do a nice collector's hardcover edition of the short novella "The Flowers of Vashnoi", much like the Penric stories. It's much too early for publication information, as the ink is barely dry on the contract, but when there is some, I'll pass it along. Though since the story has dropped into their publication queue without warning, I'm thinking 2019 is more likely than 2018.

I'm hoping to get the e-edition up by late next week, though that's still a bit speculative due to not all the pieces being in hand yet. I will, of course, also report here when there's firm news. (Ditto viz audio; it's only just submitted, but you'll get news if I do.)

I'm going to be offline for about a week, so there will be a delay in my answering questions, comments, or email for a bit. I'll report in when connected again.

* * *

Long ago, The Farside cartoon had a panel about "No News Day Farm", where they raised the two-headed calves and peculiar vegetables. So for your no-news day, I shall post a reminder of this much-neglected print-on-demand paper title:

We put it up through distributor Ingram's, so it should be orderable through any bookseller that deals with them, and of course online, ferex, https://www.amazon.com/Spirit-Ring-Lo...

(The e-edition is of course also up at the usual three vendors, Nook, iTunes, and Kindle.)

See you later,

Ta, L.

Marisa I own it... in Spanish ;)

message 3: by Lee (new)

Lee Thanks for the heads-up! Somehow I missed this one when it first came out, so I've rectified that. I look forward to reading it and book-talking it with others realsoonnow.

Alex Shrugged Got it.

message 5: by Snail (new)

Snail Think I got it from the library (or perhaps Half Price Books?) way back when, and enjoyed it very much.

Rick Ellrod Yep -- I've got a copy of *The Spirit Ring* -- I'm fond of that one; it's an unusual historical setting for a fantasy.

message 7: by Jerri (new)

Jerri I own a copy, but somehow never managed to finish it. As I recall, the violence at (near?) the beginning was so upsetting that I couldn't go on. I am so glad that in the Curse of Chalion we get the worst of Cazaril's backstory later, after I felt invested in the story. (And then later other VERY nasty backstory as well.) It is probably a weakness in me, but I can remember a SF series being highly recommended by a reader I trusted, but the first chapter had such a high body count that I couldn't bring myself to continue. Possibly one reason why Warrier's Apprentice is my preferred starting point for the Vorkosigan books, rather than Shards.

Angela Penrose I remember this one. I read it and thought, "Hah, she read Cellini's Autobiography!" The guy was a crack-up, with enough ego for like twelve people. He makes a great character, especially when the reader's not meant to like him. :)

Jane Bigelow I'm looking forward to Flowers of Vashnoi.

I loved The Spirit Ring, and was always a little sorry that it never had a sequel. Both the characters and the world are so interesting!

Seconded, definitely.

Marti Dolata Yes, I bought the original paperback when It was issued, and have always felt this book has never gotten all the love it deserves.
