still image-blocked

OK, so I just tried to load an image into a blog post from my dropbox account, and the recipe given last time around did not work. I made it work once with the Chinese cover, below, but have never succeeded since.

Anyone else have a work-around for inserting an image from dropbox?

Note that any advice calling for anything much more complicated than a right-click or copy-and-paste will be useless on this user's end.

This is the first time Goodreads has really made made MAD at them. The prior system, though kludgy, was working, drattit, till the GR ptb broke it with their stupid 20-image restriction.

sigh, L.

I posted a question for you in the Feedback Group. Maybe a volunteer with knowledge will jump in. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

{removed image} oooh i did it but I did it in away that wasn't simple. Well it is but hard to make it sound simple. I use a program called GYAZO. Its a common program for creating screenshots and being able to share them easily. Once you capture the screenshot. It opens up to a page that lets you copy and paste the html code. And I just pasted it in this comment box.

Thanks for the Feedback Group link! We'll see what comes of it.

Everything after the second sentence in your post is word-salad to me, sigh.

I can get the images from my scanner to my computer to dropbox. And I have done the carat-img etc. trick enough times to know I can insert a "copy image location" item; fortunately, Goodreads kindly supplies a cheat sheet for that task beside one's composition box. It's getting a working link from a dropbox image copied into the carat-img thingie that defeats me.

Onwards, L.

(Or maybe I'll just give up and go watch DVDs.)

Word-salad haha
I couldn't make their "cheat sheet" advice work either.

While your off watching DVDs hopefully someone will find this thread and come to your rescue with advice regarding locating the dropbox html address you can use. And how exactly to insert it into the carat-img line.

I think getting the image from scanner to computer to dropbox is the hard part so you just need some final bits of advice. I don't use dropbox so I have to tap out.

Meanwhile, I searched for and found GYAZO's site, and have stared at it in mute unease for a while. I suspect I could download their app all by myself, though I might have a speed bump due to using Firefox.

If they are a free image web-hosting service, as seems implied, how are they paying for themselves...? Are they all right, basic-security wise? (Nothing I would upload would be private or personal anyway.)

Ta, L.

Many, many people use it without complaints or suspicion. Not saying your questions about the company aren't valid but again its a common program being used. Friends suggest it to friends. Just do a little google search.. "Is Gyazo safe" see what you read.

That was my exact next question! How do I control the size of the image?

L. (This is going to take some practice. But at least I can go direct to my computer files for the original images.)

See: {image removed now} we can get some help from the GR cheat sheet also if just adjusting that one # doesn't do enough for you

Curious ... View this image {removed image now} Are those the same steps you took to get the html code you posted into your comment box? Or are you doing it a different way, like entering the direct link into the carot-img etc yourself?

Huh. It looks as if I just add the width command after the URL/ Shall try next.

...not add. Replace.

For me that # was already filled in (when I followed the steps in the picture of msg14) so I had to change it to 400 or it was too huge. That's why I was curious if you are using their code (copy and pasted) because it would also be automatically filled in for you.

Maybe you are doing your own thing now. Gyazo location inserted into a manually made carot-img.

W/e looks like its working.

Once I uploaded the images to GYAZO, I discovered the "share" icon, which had 3 choices, the lady, the tiger, and the walrus. The second down, for html, seemed to work here.

I pasted the link directly into my post, and it popped up here. With your pointer, I found the width control within the link and altered it. And now we have a tiny fox, above. I'll post that image again next time I blog about SubPress, at launch date. If I can remember how by then.

GYAZO. Who knew? I'd never heard of it before your comment.

Thanks! Problem appears to be solved. For now...

...What the devil is walrus "markdown", anyway?

Puzzled, L.

done experimenting

It seems to give you a field to type in before the link and then that would make all the ugly address stuff disappear and you would only see the words you typed in.

Kinda like this The Curse of Chalion but I can't make it work with Gyazo's "markdown".

message 21: by rivka (new)

rivka Markdown is another language, like HTML but supposedly easier to use, which some websites support. Goodreads is not one of those websites.

message 22: by Softness (new)

Softness Ah, behind the scenes experimentation thread! ^^

message 23: by Shane (new)

Shane Castle I dunno. I looked up markdown and it doesn’t seem all that much standardized, or well defined. It’s no wonder it’s not supported here; I probably wouldn’t if I were the admin.

Easier? 😂 Another kind of difficult, for me at least. Very used in places like skype.

message 25: by rivka (new)

rivka I don't find it easier either, but I have had explained to me a couple times why I should.
