Rating My Reads on Goodreads
I'm always encouraging readers to review/rate books because it makes a huge difference for us. Even a critical review helps readers make choices. However, I've refrained from rating anything myself here because...well, as an author, I don't want to give a poor review to a "colleague"! I've decided to start rating my reads, but only if I can give them a 4 or 5. I've zoomed through and rated my reading material for the last few months. For me, a 4 means "Loved this!" and a 5 is "I was blown away." So, yeah, I'm not an easy grader ;) Four stars is high praise from me. And if I can't give it that, I won't rate it here.

I never give less than a 3, if lower I just ignore the book. Most of my reviews are between 4 and 5, partly because I tend to be selective when I select a book to read and partly because I have certain authors I adore and watch for each new book and grab them as soon as they are released. You are one of my favorites!

your Rockton novels are the best books ever 5/5
Can definitely respect this, particularly when you can see the author is an active presence on this site, so it feels more personal. If I feel I can still offer something constructive I still will but make a little extra effort to read the next book for them and only then if I find the same issue than I refrain from review because then it feels more like their personal style rather than anything to improve on.
I think ratings on this site have helped me find some great reads that I would have never heard of before. I just wish there was half stars. There are some books I liked but weren’t a 4 star rating..
It's a delicate balance between "I want to review each book I read honestly so that other readers can make informed choices" and "I don't want to be a negative presence by leaving an unflattering review."
