Too Much Goodreads Is Bad for My Writing Health

I spend way too much time on Goodreads and its impacting my writing. Meaning I'm not as far along as I should be on my writing because of being too active on Goodreads. I have lots of books to crank out and Goodreads is stifling my progress. Can one addiction: Goodreads be detrimental to another: writing? My writing career isn't going to make itself successful without my input. So I'm going to spend more time on those projects I have mentioned in other previous blog posts: my sci-fi/Mixed genre trilogy, sequel to Weeping Well trilogy and cozy mysteries series, plays and other business and literary projects. That doesn't mean I won't be on Goodreads. I'll still be here. But more time is needed with my creativity.

Thanks, Pamela! I'm going to finish each book I've started on already and release them all in the same year after editing and beta reading is done. I need to get more books out there. This is my three year plan. And within the next three years I'll continue the same thing until I reach my goal. My goal is to have 1,500 books out there before I become a senior citizen (I have 25 years until then) and hopeful I can live off them by then. I have 827 books including plays written down, a lot of them plotted out.

Theresa Hi Angel,

It is easy to get distracted! Not just by Goodreads, but Facebook and many other sites on the Internet. I wish you the best of luck keeping all the distractions at bay!

I'm addicted to Goodreads so I have to spend more time writing.

I'm not a fan of Facebook either. But I have to break my addiction of Goodreads or at least cut my time down so I can spend more time on writing, which I've been neglecting.

It can take over your whole life, if you let it. Takes a lot of mental energy and hinders you from functioning to do anything else.

Wade Dizdar I noticed not too long ago, famous Paul McCartney has as his corporate symbol a juggler. One who juggles, spends time wisely among other activities. Self, family, the world, the universe, the poem, and beyond.

My late intro to social media was my wise sister saying that she hated it; others use sparingly to keep up with good friends but I participate in "news" etc. and remember who I am, how old etc. It makes sense to me. Luckily I have an echo of one who loves everything, hates this popular means of expression, so can easily always hold back and rein-in the worst expulses.
