Penric's Mission hc out from Subterranean

I'm told the Subterranean Press hardcover edition of "Penric's Mission" is now shipping:

https://subterraneanpress.com/bujold-...

Why it is listed as "out of print" on its SubPress page is unclear to me. (All copies bespoke? I'll have to check...) Amazon lists it as available for preorder:

https://www.amazon.com/Penrics-Missio...

In addition, Uncle Hugo's Science Fiction Bookstore here in Minneapolis will have copies. In honor of the launch we have a signing tentatively set up at the store on Saturday, Dec. 9th at 1 PM. (Hugo's does not have room for a program, so it will be a casual sign-and-chat.) I'll reconfirm this closer to time.

Hugo's also keeps most of my other titles signed, and does mail-order to all seven continents, so for anyone thinking about early holiday shopping, it's a great resource.

(Btw, under the news/editorials section currently up on Hugo's site, in the "How's Business" section, is an interesting article dated August on the history of book distribution in the US.)

In the used market. The SubPress business model works with one limited print run only, and they're done.

It does make the folks who were complaining about the SubPress price a couple of years ago look no-how. If they'd bought a copy for list price then, they could have multiplied their money several-fold by reselling it now.

It appears that all the copies of "Mission" that SubPress printed have been shipped. Apart from those that went directly to customers, they are all sloshing around out there in the distribution system now. See link above for history of the book distribution system.

I noticed! I was looking ahead to read Penric's tales in sequence.

Oddly my public library system (catalogued online) has "Penric's Demon" on audio CD only (not my thing), five copies of "Penric's Mission" on order, and an online page for "Penric and the Shaman," but showing 0 copies and none on order. That's it for Penric at my library at this time.

For now, I will buy a hard cover of "Penric and the Shaman" for the library, but am not quite at $165 for "Demon," not for myself or the library.

As a result of this post, I now see there is a Kindle app on Amazon that will enable downloading "Penric's Demon" to my iMac. Cell phones and tablets are comfortable for my eyes in too-short doses for enjoying a novella, but my desktop Mac has a discoverable mode of manually fine-tuning my lighting and color, so that reading is user-friendly enough to allow reasonable durations. (It also makes all of the art posted here appear stunningly crisp with depth of color.) At least my first meeting with Penric will be his first meeting with us.
