A Change Is Coming

I often wonder what did I just walk into when I stepped onto Goodreads four years ago. I've been quite active here on Goodreads. I've helped a lot of struggling authors with as much of my expertise as they've asked for or welcomed, reviewed lots of books (still reviewing the rest on my Currently reading list) but starting this summer I've decided I'm going to change a lot of things. I've left a number of groups because I'm either not being noticed or there are things going on that even Goodreads doesn't know about (very shady things, too many fake people) or maybe they know about it and don't care. I've lost faith in a lot of things lately and my wariness of Goodreads from the beginning keeps being reaffirmed. I have never ignored my gut instinct because it has never steered me wrong.

Melissa Abigail What kind of things? This is something I would like to know about (you can PM if you don't want to say). Otherwise, it's hard to be active here. I just don't have the time, personally. But I've noticed you! Hence why I'm following you. :)

That's not what I meant by not being noticed. I was talking about in situations in the groups on Goodreads. There are certain times I'm overlooked, which I guess that's bound to happen when everyone's talking at once. But that's not what made me actually leave certain groups. It was the high school shadiness that made me leave those groups. Thanks for following me. I followed you back. I appreciate my friends/followers you guys are awesome. :)

Of course. I wouldn't still be here on Goodreads if it wasn't. Thanks, T.L. I appreciate your comment.

Hi Angel

You’ve been a star in a lot of people’s corner. I hope that those experiences that you have encountered doesn’t dim that. Well, you know I’m following you. I hope that future prevalence flourish with the nobilitiy of again seeing inspired, and inspiring goals. Good luck to you. Go luck to us, and for us!

Wade Dizdar If you can carry on with a sense of purpose; some can or find a way. Wasn't my experience on Poetry: group; those people I most admired, truthful and having a point either deleted themselves, once returning or went silent. Mostly there were social-media like putdowns, boasts and a lot of things that, without sheer numbers, one never would consider saying or doing.
The leadership was awful-- some poet leader only concerned about the Newsletter. One board member wrote to share and that was enough. Goodbye, Poetry: group. Shedding poets by the month

Yes, I know. I was referring to the groups I was a member of and left them because of some issues I had with them. Thanks, Ronald! Good luck to you.

I have left groups for many reasons. But don't worry Wade I won't be leaving Goodreads, just groups that aren't right for me anymore. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate it.

Chani I have noticed more and more people attacking other people for having an opinion on here, or for liking certain books or disliking them. It's upsetting to see, especially because I agree with you on the fact that it feels like high school bullying and postulating. I haven't spent much time on forums in groups in about a year now because of that as well. :/

I'm just cleaning out the toxicity. When a group becomes toxic to me I just have to get out. Thanks, Chani for weighing in on this with me. :)

JoAnn Hill Interesting, Angel, I have enjoyed your messages. I think we need people like you. I'm in the middle of writing my forth novel. I just published my third, "Sketchy", so I don't find much time for conversations here, but I do at least follow some, like you!

Anna Walls Groups explode with popularity and then die. I've been scarce here because GoodReads tends to be hard loading for me, but I still try to keep up somewhat. Not long ago, I got a friend request from someone who appeared quite shaky, but I reported them. It is the first time I ever had any trouble within the site.

Hi, Anna! Thanks, for sharing.

June Meek It is always a good thing to follow your gut instincts. Thank you for your post. I have been too busy to notice anything wrong with good reads. Can you tell us a bit just so we can be on the safe side, too? Thank you.

Hi, June! I've addressed this in the earlier responses in the comments here on this post and so have others, expressing the reasons for leaving a particular group. One of the commenters here on this post, Chani explains it best.
