Words

It's amazing how many people have their own way of not only saying words but utilizing them.

And I'm not exempt..today I said I was voluptuous. But when I pronounced it I said volumptuous. I don't know why. I know how it's spelled and what it means but dang if I didn't add an M. Weird huh?

Sometimes there are just words you can't say right. My mom used to say Nakkin for napkin. She knew what it meant, how it was spelled...but that's how she said it.

Or 'breffast' as opposed to breakfast. And while it may be incorrect and would be considered an error in the world of words, it's kinda endearing and makes me smile thinking about my mom.

My son, when he was little, said 'bemember' instead of remember. I know, he was a toddler and he's supposed to mispronounce words, but still I knew he was grown up when he said remember correctly. And he knows its affect on me cause when he wants something he uses the 'bemember' out.

Of course we need to be cognizant of the weight of words and use them properly but sometimes a word that is said incorrectly can be pretty powerful in it's own right.

What words do you or someone you know say differently?

Carol Smith My daughter used to say aminal for animal. It was cute, and to this day we sometimes say that, just for laughs.

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book Oh wow this is a good blog post. I have to admit that I'm a stickler for mispronounced words. Like you said, it's one thing if it's a child who is still learning, but I have to admit I'm not very forgiving of adults who continuously and purposely mispronounce words. *blushing*. If it's a mistake because they're talking fast and their lips got ahead of them, or if their mind is distracted, that is a little more easy to forgive, it's the constant, conscious mistakes that get to me. All that being said, I've gotten much better about keeping my mouth shut about it :-D OR if I do say something it's in a much nicer tone or I'll make it seem like I misheard them or I might say something like "did you mean _____?"

I think it's nice that you see this situation as endearing :-)
