Aha, it is starting to surface.

iTunes is first out the starting gate this time...

https://itunes.apple.com/us/book/mira...

Amazon and Nook should follow within the day. I'll post the links as I find them.

2/28 -- ah, here's Nook:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/miras...

and now Amazon, just within the last half hour:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XCM8VPB/...

The other country Amazons should follow soon.

Yes, here's Amazon UK already:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06XCM8VP...

About the only push these novellas are getting are my blog posts, so reviews and other mentions by y'all out and about on the net are very important. Amazon US always gets plenty of reviews, Nook and iTunes lag and could use some more, but in either case those vendor reviews are only seen by someone who has already found the story. Learning it exists in the first place generally has to happen elsewhere.

I've wondered if I should say any more about it, but really, at 28k words you can all find out for yourselves soon enough.

It's not, by the way, my shortest novella so far -- "Winterfair Gifts" was about 23,500, by way of comparison; "Weatherman" was about 27,000.

I won't be able to tell till the Kindle edition goes up, but such a glitch is possible.

My usual custom is to wait a bit and collect all the errata I can before asking for a re-do, in the interests of efficiency. We'll see what turns up in the next few days.

There's always something...

The Kindle edition was just uploaded this morning, so it should be appearing soon-ish, sometime today certainly. I see the Nook edition is up this morning -- shall add link.

JAN Thank you Ms. Bujold I just got the book from BnN. I learned about its existence on Facebook. Since I buy from Baen then I use the epub format for my ebooks. I also support Amazon competition.

I could not find your book through the search at BnN but had to use your link.

Sometimes the vendor search functions lag a bit, I've found. It's only a concern if it doesn't sort itself out in a few days.

I've never been able to get the iTunes search to work for me for e-books, but perhaps one has to be signed up. Which seems backwards to me; people would surely be more willing to sign up if they knew their target book was waiting. Ah, well.

David Larsen Amazon is listing it for sale, but there seems to be some sort of bug with the download -- I bought it & I'm getting "We are investigating the difficulty with this title" messages. Possibly they put the link up a little early. I expect it will be working before long...

Here at 12:30 PM Central time, I tried to get it direct on my own Kindle. I had a setback finding it due to my search keyboard not handling apostrophes, so the bots didn't recognize or match the spelling "miras". But I persevered, and blundered into it with a "search everywhere" retry.

However, instead of reading "downloaded" on my home screen, it says "queued", which is new to me. Anyone know what that means? I'll have to see how long it takes to get over that. If it does.

I should like to fantasize that we've overloaded the server with our massive popular demand, but more likely it's just a glitch upstream somewhere. Some time will tell.

Shall go continue reading my manga in progress while I wait it out.

Ta, L.

Later: Ha. The biter bit. I gave my Paperwhite a half hour to spontaneously heal, which it didn't. When I tapped on the title on my home page, which was still frozen, it gave a pop-up menu with two choices, the lady or the tiger, er, cancel download or not. Since "not" hadn't worked before, I tried cancelling, figuring to try a re-buy. Amazon now insists I have the title (which, of course, I don't) and won't sell it to me again.

No idea what to try next.

I feel your pain, people...

OK, it's not just me/my title, then. I will wait it out a while longer.

message 13: by David (new)

David Larsen Thanks DebL -- useful to know. I'm in the same "pending..." Kindle limbo -- first time this has happened in many, many purchases. I shall wait it out. The upside of this: without the temptation to spend the day reading, I'm far more likely to get some work done.

message 14: by DebL (new)

DebL Lois, I've finished my first read-through (yum!). Are you going to put up a typo/error reporting post?

message 15: by David (new)

David Larsen Looks like Amazon have fixed it -- just saw it on my Kindle. Off to do some reading.

It's downloaded to my Kindle app on my laptop, but not to my Kindle itself. I think I did something Wrong a while ago. Well, I'll try messing around a bit more.

Not much later: Going to my "manage your devices" on my Amazon account allowed me to stumble over a reload feature, which worked. Yay!

I think I should have spent more time playing computer games when younger. (Not that I had time then.) I would be better trained for this sort of thing. They seem to be set up to cater to the sort of people who can actually find the Easter Eggs.

I probably should. Or you could just report whatever you find here -- not too much, I hope.

Got the missing art credit, so far.

Oh, the cover's ok --what's missing is the art credit for the cover design, which is by Ron Miller. I'll get that fixed later when I've had a chance to collect any other errata.

Anyway, people's first reads shouldn't be proofreads. Just read. And enjoy, I hope.

Kate Halleron Still wishing your 'indie' works were published on a platform that's closer to being device neutral. iBooks can only be read on iDevices, NookBooks on Nook devices, KindleBooks on Kindle device/app - unless one does something mildly illegal and has the knowledge to do so.

Very good point. Something like Google's Play Store (which, iirc, uses Adobe DRM, which is relatively 'standard' and is pretty much device neutral), would make a lot of sense.

Apparently Google Play Books is not accepting indie works right now, but Kobo is.

message 35: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth McCoy There's also Smashwords, which looks clunky and, like it's from the 70s or something (hyperbole for the win!), but does allow purchase of just about any format. Only issue may be that they're DRM-free; I know there are plug-ins that will crack Kindle DRM like an egg, so I don't fret about it, but it's definitely up to author comfort levels.
