Who’s in Your Room?

“Who’s in Your Room?”  This was the question asked by a close friend of mine, Stewart Emery (pictured in this blog) at a presentation of his that I attended a few months ago. He posed an interesting series of questions and ideas to the audience; “What if you had to live your life in one room?  Whoever you want to interact with in life is in that room.  There is only one door.  It is a one-way door.  Whoever is in your room, stays in your room forever.  Whoever comes into your room impacts your life directly in many ways.  ...

Building a Power Team

Referral partnerships are a powerful element in an effective networking group.  This informative and equally entertaining video by Lawrence Conyers of UK based Anson Corporate Media (you may remember the video of his I posted back in December about how to conduct effective one-to-one meetings) is all about building a Power Team of referral partners and, though it is geared toward members of BNI groups, the information works for all networking groups. Lawrence , who is not only an experienced networker but also a gifted and creative photographer, videographer, and artist, demonstrates how a Power Team is built and how it ...

Perception Is Reality! — "Navigating the VCP Process(R) to Networking" Series

TR Garland (pictured with me in the photo below) is a friend of mine and co-author of one of my most recent #1 best-selling books called "Building The Ultimate Network."  He's also considered a top trainer for the Referral Institute.  For some time now, we've both observed a need to drill down on one of the most important and foundational concepts to networking – The VCP Process®.  Last month, we started a much-anticipated 12-part monthly series of blog posts which addresses this and contains some very timely information for networkers across the globe.  Today, we're proud to share with you ...

Business Networking and Sex: Survey Says . . . The Exception Becomes the Perception

In this video, I talk about how the exception really does become the perception and  I share the statistically significant differences between the way men and women do business. I've often said that "Mars and Venus, from a perspective of business aren't like two planets . . . they're more like two cities in the same county" . . . to find out why I say this, watch the video now and then come back and leave your feedback–do you agree?

Fear of Rejection–Don't Let It Stand in the Way of Your Success

Back in 1994 I authored the first edition of The World's Best Known Marketing Secret.  I was out promoting the book and trying to get bookstores to carry it.  Back then, one of the ways to do that was to go to book stores and do what I liked to call "drive-by signings" (what can I say – I'm from L.A.).  A friend of mine said there was a local neighborhood bookstore that didn't have any copies of my book. The store was literally on my way home one day so I stopped off there but couldn't seem to talk ...

Thierry Mazué: Double Your Referred Buisness

In this video, Thierry Mazué, my good friend and Mater Franchisee/Trainer for the Referral Institute in France, talks about two of the eight referral sources in referral marketing and explains how you can double your referred business simply by using two of them. After watching the video, be sure to visit www.ReferralInstitute.com to learn more about the other sources of referrals and then come back to this site to leave your comments about which of the referral sources you currently use and which additional sources you feel you could begin to tap into.

Behind the Scenes of the "Today" Show

Many of you know that I was on the Today show a couple of weeks ago to talk with Kathie Lee and Hoda about my new book, Business Networking and Sex (not what you think).  Some of you might like to hear the "real" dirt on what Hoda and Kathie Lee are like off camera. Ready for it??  It's really juicy!  Here it comes . . . they are fun and professional.  OK . . . maybe that's not juicy but it's the truth. Both women were very friendly and welcoming to me before the interview started.  In the few ...

Video: Last Week's "Today" Show Appearance

It was truly an honor to be interviewed on the "Today" show last Tuesday (2/21/12) by Kathie Lee and Hoda.  It was such a great experience that I'm going to post a blog next Monday about the interview and what happened behind the scenes.  For now, I'd like to share the 4-minute video clip of the interview here and please feel free to leave your feedback in the comments section–I'd love to hear your thoughts on the information that was discussed in the interview! CLICK HERE, or on the image below to watch the video now and I welcome  you to ...

Unsolicited Advice is Rarely Appreciated

I recently received an unsolicited e-mail message from a man named Chris.  The message stated: I watched the "video for International Networking Week and… I found it personally offensive and amateurish.  I just thought you would like some feedback.  Consider that when you make your presentation on the Today Show [next week]." OK, so I should begin by saying – I don't know Chris.  I've never met him and have never talked to him.  Why he would feel compelled to send me such a 'pleasant' communication, I can't fathom. However, I am thankful to Chris.  I'm thankful because his e-mail ...
