Recently “Life in Russia” was nominated for – Very Inspiring Blogger Award – by Patrick Jones at “The Linden Chronicles.” He has the same passion for paleo-anthropology and archaeology that I do, plus the fact we are both writers.

When something like this happens I’m always thankful but realize the inspiration I receive comes not from myself but from those around me. I’ve been very blessed to have had many wonderful guest bloggers here at “Life in Russia“. Plus I’m constantly scouring the internet for fascinating stories about Russia, it’s history, people, nature all of which I’ve grown very much in awe of.

One thing that Pat and I share is our belief that everyone has their own special story. One of my favorite things to do is listen, I’m always thrilled to learn about someone’s life, where they are from, what they have…

Moving Mondays: 1st Day of Winter

Patrick Jones:

Moving Art by Louie Schwartzberg…always beautiful images to reflect life on this great planet!!

Originally posted on Moving Art by Louie Schwartzberg:

December 21st marks the first day of Winter for the Northern Hemisphere. The cold weather and smaller amount of daylight signals a shift in our behavior that can affect our mood and well-being. The duality of this season — its cold and brutal weather and the pristine beauty it can offer us — is something we should embrace as inspiring and motivating. We can find both good and bad in nearly everything in our lives; it’s up to us to decide focus on the good.

This is a season that inspires reflection and guides us to embrace the quiet and the darkness as periods of potential growth. We all need time to slow down and turn in.  And if the shortest day of the year depresses you, I hope you will remember this: The Winter Solstice marks the return of the light. The days will only get longer from here on out!

Curse of the Dark Wind by Charles E. Yallowitz

BOOK BUZZ TIPS

A successful book launch can really make a difference:

Early sales help a book start out with a good sales rank.
This gives the book better visibility, especially if the book lands on any of the bestseller lists (even in a subcategory).
The customers-also-bought list also builds faster.
If sales taper off, those early sales prevent the rank from sliding as quickly.
Early sales improve the chances for early reviews.

In this article, I will present a variety of ideas to assist with book promotion before, during, and shortly after the book launch.

To help illustrate some of my points, I will feature strategies used by fantasy author Charles E. Yallowitz, who is presently promoting his own book launch for Curse of the Dark Wind, the sixth book in his Legends of Windemere series.

These labyrinths are made of stones which have been laid on the surface of soil. Although just 1.35 kilometres square Bolshoi Zayatsky Island is actually one of the 6 large Solovetsky Islands. The island covered with boulders, moss and large bushes is renowned for its unique collection of Neolithic structures – stone labyrinths, barrows and ancient sanctuaries all dating back to 3,000 BC. The labyrinths are concentrated in a small area on the western part of the island. The diameter of the labyrinths is between six and twenty-four metres and they are for the most part formed of boulders set in a row. The…
