Mark Zuckerberg’s Book Club Really Puts “The Book” in Facebook

Patrick Jones:

Interesting news on Facebook’s new Book Club from Mark Zuckerberg posted by The Book Publicist authored by Scott Lorenz.

One of the most fascinating stories to kick off 2015 featured Mark Zuckerberg, founder of the powerful social media giant Facebook, announcing his New Year’s Resolution to read a new book every other week, and invited all his Facebook Friends to join him in the effort.

The result is A Year Of Books, is essentially the Mark Zuckerberg Book Club – even though Zuckerberg appears to carefully avoid calling it that.Girl Reading book word Cloud Color

Unlike Oprah Winfrey’s famous book club, the purpose of Mark’s new entry is not to boost book sales; he wants to promote the reading and discussion of books. Because of the unprecedented market reach of Facebook, I can predict without hesitation that the day will come soon when Mark Zuckerberg’scommunity will surpass Oprah’s Book Club. True, Oprah is a strong force among American readers, but Zuckerberg reaches the entire world, delivering a mass audience exceeding 1.35…

My #Book #Marketing Secret by #Indie #Author Nicholas Rossis

More information from Nicholas Rossi posted by The Story Reading Ape on how to market yourself just by being you :)

My marketing strategy is really simple. In fact, it can be summed up as follows:

Be real,
be fun,
be helpful.

If you do that, people will buy your books simply because they will like you and will want to support you. In other words, “if people like what you’re saying, they’ll like what you’re selling.”

I have read many marketing guides, but have come to realize that it all boils down to how people perceive you. In marketing speech, your brand.

Having a consistent author brand is liberating. It allows you to publish pretty much anything you like, irrespective of genre. People will read your books because you have written them – and they trust you to offer them a good time.

That’s great. How about some real tips now?

The other day, a visitor to my blog asked me for…

Making Your Blog into the Next BLOGBUSTER!

1.  ACTORS:  The most important thing is deciding who should play YOU.  Go hobnobbing (what does that word even mean?  And can you go hobbing without the nobbing part?)  in exclusive circles to generate buzz about your casting.  Say this:  “Cameron Diaz is begging to be ME, but I don’t know….it’s such a meaty role.  I think I’m…

New Life – Ostrich

New Life – Ostrich from Boeta at Our Rumbling Ocean. Great pictures of the Ostrich from South Africa!

It is proper that we begin the new year with new life being created. We took a drive this morning, to do some birding and see some animals, so for those who like the fauna part of our blog, we will be posting our finds in the next period. The first 3 posts of this morning’s trip will be all about new life.

Driving we saw a female ostrich feeding. She was calmly going about her daily activity, nothing special.

Ostrich maleNothing special again, but then we saw more movement. Yes this was a mommy and daddy and daddy was sitting on the nest, possibly still on eggs as he seemed to roll or adjust something under him, but the movement we saw was a chick and then we saw two.

KINDLE UNLIMITED

Toward the end of July, 2014, Amazon introduced a new subscription service called Kindle Unlimited, which allows customers to read unlimited books for $9.99 (US price) per month.

This includes 100,000 traditionally published books in addition to 600,000 KDP Select books.
Most of the traditionally published books are from smaller publishers, but include some popular books such as Harry Potter.
Customers can borrow up to 10 different books at a time (whereas Amazon Prime allows just one borrow per month).
Kindle Unlimited only pays a royalty when a customer reaches 10% of the book’s length.
All Kindle Unlimited downloads affect sales rank, regardless of whether or not the customer reaches the 10% mark.
Royalties for Kindle Unlimited borrows have been as low as $1.30, down considerably from around $2 prior to Kindle Unlimited.
Many books receive numerous Kindle Unlimited borrows, while borrows were…

Authors write off Amazon subscription model | Nation & World | The Seattle Times

I found this article about Amazon Kindle Unlimited very interesting.  It confirms what I have heard from other authors about the backlash to the author insofar as book sales.  Evidently, Kindle Unlimited is offered up by Amazon as a loss leader to draw in other sales.  However, the author is the one taking the loss, not Amazon. What are your thoughts on this new platform and what have you seen in your own sales numbers?

Farmers’ Almanac: Full Moons in 2014 & 2015

Howling Wolf Clipart

The Farmers’ Almanac always has the most accurate forecasts and information about the climate.  Here, they detail the dates of the full moon phases for 2014 and for 2015.  The full Wolf Moon phase is on January 5th in 2015.  “The Wolf’s Moon” title was derived from the name of this lunar phase.  The book cover is a picture that we took just outside the back door  on the Wolf Moon in 2012 when the book was published.  The picture, to me, appears to have two wolves dancing in the moonlight.  It is really just a couple of leaves but seemed to take on the feel of the thriller/suspense context of the novel.  It is by no means about werewolves but instead, something much more sinister.
