Me with you

angels

Me with you,

For all our days,

To navigate,

That worldly haze

By your side,

For all my life,

I your husband,

You my wife

My eternal love,

Is yours to keep,

In heaven above,

We make angels weep

A love so deep,

So pure, so true,

The perfect woman,

For me is you

I love you so,

With all my heart

Eternally yours,

Never apart

I love you, Ionia.

Always.

Forever.

Eternally.

Zebra

An amazing poem, by an amazing woman. The love of my life. Happy random day anniversary, Ionia. I love you.

readful things blog

She is crazy

He is sane

She is paisley

He’s solid black

She runs off without thinking

And he puts life back on track

Her head is full of ideas

Too big to be contained

He always takes time to listen

He never complains

She’s a pantser

He’s a planner

She never looks before she leaps

He is careful

Thinks things through

He prepares for the deep

She is angry

She is loud

She screams into the sea

He is calm

He is silent

He is what she wishes to be

He’s a poet

She’s an artist

She flies with fancy

He’s the smartest

She loves him

And he loves her

And somehow it works out

Because differences aside,

Love is what it’s all about.

I love you, Julian.

Happy random day anniversary, because you deserve to be appreciated just because.

Easter – March 27

easter 1

So what do we think about when we think of Easter, religious connotations aside?

I guess the big one is the chocolate eggs that have been out on display in stores since the day after Christmas. How could we have missed them? They come in all manner of shapes, sizes and flavours. They fill entire aisles and carry a price tag, at least the brand name ones do, that would necessitate the taking out of a significant loan. In fact, I am pretty sure that I have even seen stands set up with all the requisite application forms next to the eggs at some stores. Come on! These are chocolate eggs, and I am pretty sure they were not designed by Faberge himself. Neither, I think, were these little guys.

easter 2jpg

Anyway, moving on from my minor rant there, what else do we think of? I guess the standards are bunnies, chicks and general cute, furry, cuddly stuff. There are decorated eggs, the poor man’s version of the Faberge egg, one supposes, and baskets. Baskets of decorated eggs.

What else is there? I would value your thoughts on this. Please let me know in the comments about what images Easter conjures up for you.

Easter always evokes images of Spring, of new birth and renewal. A time of hope for the future.

Well I hope that you will forgive me for the following, extremely shameless, unabashed and even brazen, plug for an Easter coloring book.

What could be more relaxing this Easter than coloring those iconic images of Easter?

Creative Calm 17

Description

Coloring is not just for kids. It has been proven to be an excellent way for adults to destress, create mindfulness and slow down from daily life, all while enjoying an activity that you can truly make your own. Every effort has been made to ensure that this is an enjoyable way to spend your time, but paper quality is something we don’t have control over with this method of publishing, so please use the included sheet of paper behind your artwork to ensure that your chosen pens or markers do not bleed through to the next page. All pages are single sided to allow for framing and to help protect the next artwork.

There is no right or wrong way to color in the images in this book, and you are free to choose the tools you wish to work with. Markers, paint, colored pencils, pens – the choices are unlimited.

Sit back and unwind and let your stress melt away while you spread color across the pages. Relax and enjoy book seventeen, ‘Easter’ of this calming series.

Happy Coloring!

PS: Assuming that you have made it this far, I really should have put this first, but then it wouldn’t have been a postscript then, would it. I digress! So if you are reading this then why not hop on over to the J and I Publishing blog where you can find information on releases of all of our books. I know. I know. You just want to get on over there to read about the adventures of our C.P.O, Chief Pig Officer, Sir Bacon. Whatever your reason, we would love to see you there.

Roadtrip! How I love thee

Oh what fun! Wonderful post, by a wonderful woman, about a wonderful trip. Hope I am not overusing the wonderful here.

readful things blog

So last week, the gang and I decided that it would be a good idea if I could see some actual landscapes other than boring Nevada, since I am illustrating a landscape book.

One of those random, Jules and I are sitting at the park kind of moments when we decide we need a change of scenery, so we go home and toss everything into a pile in the back of the family wagon (or in this case, Dodge Journey–named appropriately) and just go. With no thought to what we actually should have brought or if this was a good idea. Welcome. To. Us.

We decided on Northern California and Southern Oregon as our destination. Love Highway 101 especially during the time of year when it floods, blows a million miles an hour, snows and the fog is thicker than Trump’s skull. So off we went.

I quite enjoyed the…

Bacon. Oink. Oink.

A few words from the venerable C.P.O of J and I Publishing about his recent travels.

J and I Publishing

Those of you who keep up with J and I Publishing know that we have a very talented C.P.O. (Chief Pig Officer) named Bacon. He has been a good friend for a long time and we trust him with the big decisions for our publishing company.

If you keep up with this blog, you will notice that coming soon will be the life story of this fine swine, on a separate page entitled “The Big Life of a Small Pig,” written by the pig himself.

Until then, Bacon and I decided we would keep you updated on what he has been up to in the mean time. So this is his first hog post…er…blog post. Bacon and us at J and I went on a recent research mission for my WIP (Work including Piggy) to seek out some landscapes to draw. So here are some “pigtures” from Bacon’s personal collection…

7 Signs a Person is Suffering from Author Fatigue

Fun Post wiith some important medical advice contained herein.

Legends of Windemere

Yahoo Image Search Yahoo Image Search

Does this really need an intro?  Sure most, if not all, of us have been here at some point.  This is possibly a new thing I’ll do from time to time, which was inspired by John W. Howell’s Ten 10 Lists on Mondays.

You start dreaming about editing and it steadily becomes a nightmare.  Their, there, and they’re attack out of the shadows.  You’re strapped to a chair and forced to watch all of your greatest typos play out in front of a giant crowd.  Also, you’re naked and the dog ate your manuscript.  Not sure where the dog came from, but it looks remarkably like your old English teacher who swore you wouldn’t be able to write your name much less a novel.
You sit down to write at the laptop and blast away an epic chapter that is the best you’ve ever done.  Your…

Is the Amazon Green?

Amazon

Well, I am pretty sure that the jungle is, and no doubt the river itself in places. But that is not the Amazon I am referring to here. I will explain further.

With all the recent build up to St Patrick’s Day on the 17th day of the month of March, in the year of our Lord Two Thousand, One Hundred and Sixteen, and the prominence of the green with which these festivities abound, I got to thinking. Whoah! Careful now, I hear you say. Don’t strain yourself. Okay! Okay! So, I got to thinking about green of a different nature. Here goes.

So why is it that when I order a single book, let’s say 8” x 8” and less than an inch deep, that it arrives in a box 30” x 24” x 8” or so. Stuffed with brown paper, or bubble wrap. This seems to be extremely wasteful, environmentally unfriendly, and economically unsound. This would not seem to make any sort of corporate sense either. If this were a one off I could perhaps understand, but it seems to be the norm, rather than the exception.

In this current age of ‘going green’, caring for the environment and packaging reduction requirements hitting many businesses, it seems a little ethically irresponsible that one of the biggest companies in the world appears to be neglecting a large section of their Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR. Still, I like to get my packages as quickly and easily as the next person, and love the convenience of shopping online with Amazon. I am sure they have their reasons.

Just some food for thought, I guess.

Color me Green – St Patrick’s Day, March 17th

So who was St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland?

J and I Publishing

St_Patrick

So the world renowned St Patrick’s day ‘holiday’ is fast approaching, but what do we really know about St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. St Patrick’s day is celebrated on March the 17th and is not confined purely to Ireland. It has grown into a highly recognisable celebration that takes place, in different forms, worldwide. In fact the celebrations take place even farther afield than this, having occurred on the international space station and well, that is out of this world.

If we look at Wikipedia we find that he hails from Roman Britain in the 5th Century and was a Christian missionary and bishop. Apparently kidnapped by Irish raiders and gainfully employed as a slave in Gaelic Ireland, shepherding, he found God. Legend has it that he used the three leaved shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost to…
