Sean Gibson, "author" and slackonteur, is not a professional mini biography writer (if he were, this would be much more compelling). Instead, he’s a business professional by day, hangs out with his amazing wife, son, and daughter by night, and writes somewhere in between. He holds a BA in English Literature from Ohio Wesleyan University and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, though rumors persist that he also attended mime school (he is silent on the subject). Sean is a fan of sports teams from Detroit, a distressingly large number of bands that rose to prominence in the 1980s, and writing in the third person. He currently resides in Northern Virginia, and, given how much he hates moving, and given that his hou ...more

That’s a great question, Gavin, and I’m glad you asked.

Let me paint a picture for you: the hips of a young Elvis Presley; the dulcet baritone of vintage Barry White; the piercing blue eyes of Alec Baldwin; the eight-pack abs of Joe Manganiello; the dancing pecs of Hugh Jackman; the rippling arms of Channing Tatum; the God-I-need-to-run-my-fingers-through-it hair of Patrick Dempsey; the pre-creepy-era cool of Michael Jackson; and the extraordinary package of Michael Fassbender.

Put those features together and you have essentially the opposite of me.

That said, I do have a few pretty sexy features and qualities that tend to drive the ladies wild, including, but not limited to:

-Flat feet and hammer toes (albeit one of my two such toes has been surgically corrected, so this is less of a draw than it once was)
-A proclivity for threesomes in my younger days (playing Magic: The Gathering with two other dudes counts as a threesome, right?)
-A nose that makes even Fassbender’s package look pedestrian
-Functional tone deafness
-A vast comic book collection that dwarfs even my collection of Dungeons & Dragons rulebooks
-Being left-handed

So, the answer to your question, my good man, is yes—I am exactly as sexy in real life as I am on Goodreads.(less)

Despite coming after Lincoln in the Bardo, Vigil feels like an amuse-bouche to that much denser work--a similar concept much more easily grasped, albeit without the same intellectual heft (some would say I've just described myself perfectly).

“The day I can't pull something useful out of my ass is the day I quit sticking things up my ass.”
Sean Gibson

“Would I use the word 'genius' to describe myself? No. 'Alive?' Perhaps. 'Befuddled?' Certainly.”
Sean Gibson

“Some people call reading an escape, but it's not - it's embracing the true reality of the best parts of who we are. It's not running away; it's running toward the thing we wish we could be, the thing we strive to be, the thing we never can be, but the thing which we always must try to become if we want to be something more than we are.”

“Bards don’t believe in goodbyes—we know that the roads we walk are winding, and we generally tend to come back to people and places we’ve known and been before, and often at just the right time.” I smiled. “We’ll meet again.”
