A Tiny Story

OK, so this isn't an individually-wrapped chocolate. It's much healthier. OK, so this isn’t an individually-wrapped chocolate. It’s much healthier. And I don’t have a picture of a chocolate.

I’ve decided to share a tiny story I wrote that was long listed for the annual, short story competition run by the Irish Times. I’ve popped it up as a page, here, on my website. But I thought I’d also publish it as a post because it’s just so tiny. So, here yougo. Look on this as a tiny, individually-wrapped, chocolate – for Christmas, like.

in the name of adventure…

dfw-aa-cg-cover-midI don’t like looking at photos of myself, at the best of times. I like hearing my voice much less than that. And yet, in the name of adventure, I’m sharing the promo for the audiobookof my short story,Checkout Girl– which is currently caught up inthe stampedeof people wishing to publish audiobooks – which, apparently, sprang fromnowhere, two weeks ago.

In other news, just to keep him on his toes, I’ve challenged my inner techie (the size of a humancell) andset up a facility for readersto get n...

adventure leads to adventure

Today, I hadthe most challenging of mornings. Hats off to actors, presenters…to anyone, basically, thatusestheir voice for a living. I have recorded my first audio book. So, very, hard.

We, Irish, speak softly. Our words are not clipped; they merge into each other attimes, blur, blend. They are gentle. I never gave that thought, until this morning.

dfw-aa-cg-cover-midWhile recording my Christmas short story, Checkout Girl, I had to concentrate on making my words distinct. At the same time, I had to make the story c...

Christmas Story

dfw-aa-cg-cover-midI have been sooo quiet. This is because I’ve been as busy as a Christmas elf (excuse theanalogy – tis the season of getting away with terrible similes):

What, you might ask, have I been up to? Well, I’ve been editing The Accidental Life of Greg Millarso that it is ready to publish onDecember 27th. I’ve been working on a paperback of Pause to Rewindwhich I would LOVEto have out forChristmas, but can’t promise. And I’ve been editing and finding a lovely cover for a Christmas short story called C...

a little bit of magic…

This is not a picture of fairy dust. But it is a picture of magic. My kind of magic. This is not a picture of fairy dust. But it is a picture of magic. My kind of magic.

It feels like fairy dusthas been sprinkled on my little publishing endeavor.

Two days ago, I offered Pause to Rewind free on amazon for aday. And, like the wave of a wand, everything changed. With every passing hour, the downloads climbed and climbed. Until, at one-thirty am, I had to finally tear myself away fromthe amazon sales rankings and go to bed.

In one day, over 40,000 people downloaded Pause to Rewind....

Introducing Mel Sherratt, the author who made it happen

Isn't she gorgeous? Isn’t she gorgeous?

Once upon a time, four girls went for a pizza. I was one, Mel Sherratt another. At the time, Mel had been trying to get published, without success. She longed for our ‘success’ as traditionally published authors. We told her that it was not all it was cracked up to be. Mel went on to self-publish to TREMENDOUS success. I am now following her downthat path. The two other pizza-eating girls are seriously considering doing the same. I love that. And I love that I can interview...

Publishing news…

dfw-aa-talogm-cover-3d-nologo

This little baby will be available to download as an ebook from amazon from December 27th, when the mad rush of Christmas is (hopefully) over and relaxation is (equally hopefully) an option.

I have just stunned myself by managing to update my Books Page to include, not only details of The Accidental Life of Greg Millar, but apreorderfacility. Yup. You can get the business out of the way now and simply have The Accidental Life of Greg Millarmagically arrive into your world when you had forgotten...

Mild Panic

I went on amazon.com this morning to check my little ebook – as you do – and had a mild panic attack. Instead of the heartwarming $0.00 sign that pops up when the book is on offer for free, the full price stared me in the face. ‘Oh yeah, what are you going to do about that?’ it said.

I thought about the ads that I had set up to let readers know of my Halloween gift. Would I ever be able to hold my head high again? A swift email to amazon followed. Then more checking. And more checking.

I am hap...

Halloween Extract from Pause to Rewind

I’m a little bit stunned. It seems I have wandered onto Wattpad, signed up and posted a Halloween extract from Pause to Rewind. This was an absolutely unplanned and curiosity-led exercise.

I’m hopeful that you can read here:wattpad

Be warned: this is NOT scary.

Happy Halloweeeeeen!
