You know who your friends are…

Why the photo of a seagull? Well, I still haven't learned how to use images from the internet with permission. This is one of my own and, well, I like it. Why the photo of a seagull? Well, I still haven’t learned how to use images from the internet with permission. This is one of my own and, well, I like it.

When writing Pause to Rewind, my eight-year-old daughter fell suddenly, seriously and terrifyingly ill. We were stuck, our liveson pause.I remember every phone call, every visit, every card, every gift. During the darkest of times, I learned who our true friends were.

Almost two weeks ago, I announcednews of my ‘adventure’ into the world of s...

This, is, personal

Took that shot myself. Just want to get that in there.

So this is where I come to document my journey into, not only self-publishing, but self-discovery. Bear with me.

Writing a novel and putting it out into the world is like offering up a tiny part of yourself to be sampled and judged. You do it because something inside (something that defies logic) drives you to.

Choosing to go a step further, to take responsibility for every aspect of each book, is proving personal in a different way.

Like a child…

Just got a rush of excitement having connected with my first person on WordPress. What does that make me? I’ll leave that to you.

A Word of Advice when Choosing a Book Title

Before deciding on a book title, google it.

Searching for ‘Pause to Rewind’, even on amazon where it is for sale, brings you to electrical appliances. I probably should not think this is funny.

The Peculiar Dilemma of An Intrepid Self-Publisher

When I told an author friend of my new adventure in publishing, she identified two issues, both of them sound:

1. I had a really good social media ‘platform’ (yeah, we talk like that) with my original name. As Aimee Alexander, I would lose that.

After consideration (because she had a point), I had this to say:

‘I don’t want to be connected to my traditionally published self. Aimee Alexander is like a different person, a part of me that has been lying dormant for too long, the dynamic part. As...

This little baby…

As I take uncertain steps forward in the fog of self-publishing, I would be lost without this little baby…

Self-Printed: The Sane Person's Guide to Self-Publishing (3rd Edition)

The title implies that I am ‘a sane person’ which is always reassuring. Apart from that, it is like having a friend by my side, holding my hand, every step of the way – this would be an entertaining, opinionated and laugh-out-loud friend. Which is always good.

Tip: If you, too, are dipping your toes into the dark and mys...

Something Wonderful

OK, I’m too late for today, but from now on, I’m going to start each day with the words, ‘Something wonderful is going to happen today.’

Why?

Well, apart from the fact that a friend who has just had amazing news does this, it means that, everyday, I’ll be expecting something wonderful. Then, no matter how small that wonderful thing is, I’ll notice it.

This is the new positive me. The person who is changing her approach to the world, not just the world of publishing. And now – even though I did...
