Sorry for the website issues…

Rough week-health issues, dealing with contracts, etc, didn’t realize the domain issues were needing to be dealt with.

Fixed now (although there might be another blip later on) and I owe people a Saturday snippet.

Anyway… snippet…

This is from an untitled RS that’s been contracted with St. Martins.  I can’t tell you anything about it, because it’s not done yet, and I can’t tell you when it will be released, either.  I can say it’s part of a new RS series…more along the lines of Fragile or Broken, though, then the Ash books, but still set in a small town.  Beyond that, no info.

“Trinity.”  His voice sounded firm and level, a fact that surprised him to no end, because he was terrified.  “Damn it, open your eyes and look at me.”

Her lashes fluttered.

She moaned.

Then, slowly, she opened her eyes and stared at him.  “Noah…?”

“Yeah.  Don’t move yet.  We need to know if you’re hurt.”

She swallowed.  “I’m not.  Well, my head a little but…” She groaned again and sat up, ignoring him when he told her again not to move.  She reached up, touching the back of her head.  “You cussed.  Preachers don’t cuss.”

Noah didn’t bother asking where she’d heard that—it was Madison, she probably knew what size shoes he wore.  “I’m not a preacher anymore, Trinity.  Be still for me, okay, honey?  I’m going to come down there, make sure you’re not hurt.”

“I’m not.”  Her voice was grouchy and she sighed.  “I’m pissed off.  There’s a hole in my floor, Noah.  A hole.  Shit, now there’s two holes.  And you didn’t put this one there.”

She went to go to her knees.

The bottom of his stomach dropped away as she froze and went white—white as death itself.

“Trinity?”

“Noah…”

Her voice broke.

Following her gaze, he found himself staring.

It took his mind a minute to process it—another to adjust.  Trinity was whimpering by the time he got down there, carefully, unwilling to take his eyes off the gruesome discovery.

He touched her shoulder and she hurled herself at him, burying her face against his neck.

He didn’t blame her.   He didn’t want to look, either.

But he couldn’t look away.

Nothing could make him look away from the odd, almost mannequin like display stretched out on the dirt floor.  It’s not real, some part of him thought.  It couldn’t be real.

Parts of it were nothing but bone.  That wasn’t the worst.  The worst were the almost flesh-looking parts, bits that looked a strange, grayish-white.

“Tell me that isn’t a person,” Trinity said, her voice low and soft.  “Please tell me it isn’t.”

Noah wished, more than anything, that he could do that.

Instead, he just cupped his hand over the nape of her neck.

In the back of his mind, he heard the words… Come on, Noah…come with me

A snippet from STOLEN…just a few more days!

“Do you need anything?” he asked.

“Yes.”

He stopped and turned, facing her, his hands hanging loose at his sides. “What?”

“Stop moving around so much…and…” she licked her lips, closed her eyes. Then, taking a deep breath, she asked, “Would you maybe just sit with me for a while? I mean…I know you and I aren’t together anymore, and maybe you don’t have anything left in you for me, but I’m feeling kind of…”

“Shay.”

She opened her eyes.

He came toward her and stopped just a breath away. One hand came up and cupped her chin. And as those whiskey-gold eyes met hers, all the pain and chaos and misery inside her fell away and once more, she was lost. But it was okay, because she was lost inside him, and that was where she wanted to be, where she needed to be.

“You think I don’t have anything in me for you?” he murmured, lowering his head so that the words were whispered against her lips. “Baby…everything I have in me is for you. You’re my everything. You are it for me. I knew that months ago. And it was killing me that you wouldn’t let me in.”

Night Blade release date

The plan is tentatively for Night Blade release the first week of March.

I’m trying to space things out so I can… hopefully…get more work done on Broken Blade, because…um.  Well.  Never mind.  That’s the plan.

Here… snippet!

“I had to take care of something outside of the city,” Damon said and his voice was a low, rumbling growl.

I heard that tone often enough. It was anger. Not that icy edge I’d seen earlier, but there were a lot of varieties of anger. And I’d faced this one of his before.

He’d figured it out—thought past the mask of Xavier’s cloaking.

“Kit.”

I turned around and I saw it in his eyes.

He knew.

As he came up off the chair, he shook his head. “I’ve been trying to place it all fucking day and it wasn’t until just now that it clicked. You said you had to work with somebody who…what, cloaked? What the fuck is that?”

“It’s what it sounds like, Damon,” I said levelly. The hell if I’d lied. Lies had never come easily to me anyway and if I even tried, he’d know. “I’m working a job. I’m doing the best I can and I can’t talk about it. Let me work it, let me finish it and I’ll explain.”

The roar echoed around the room. Echoed…echoed…until I thought my ears would burst from it.

“Kit. Were you following me?” he demanded.

“I’m working a fucking job.”

A muscle jumped in his jaw. “Is that the only thing you’re going to say, damn it?”

Just remembered… don’t tell Vivian anything that might help her find me. Although, if you do, I’ll just remember that Vivian scares easy. I’ll be fine.

Final day…contest ends tonight

Wrapping up the contest for an angel’s wing today.

The contest is for the release of BLIND DESTINY.

There was a fun review posted…sharing a snippet of it…

Again I said this would be quick but go grab it and read…  the shower scene alone is such a tease and hot hot hot.

Apparently she likes what Luc does in the shower.  I’ve had so many comments about this one, I’m just going to post some of it.  The preview is on Scribd.  You’re welcome to share the preview.

Also, because I’ve been asked this a lot… because of the way I write these books, basing each tale off a fairy tale, the series works fairly independent of each other.  You can read them out of order, with the exception of I THOUGHT IT WAS YOU, the bridge book between books 2 & 3.

Saturday Snippets…author’s choice!

So I just got my blurb for an upcoming contemporary erotic romance, no cover yet, coming in ebook from Samhain next January.

Title, Beautiful Scars…

Some scars cut right to the heart.

Three years after her divorce, Chaili Bennett is over her ex. Her only problem now? Of the few men she’s dated since, no one “gets” her. Not like Marc Archer—a man who’s never seen her as more than a friend.

Marc Archer needs a date for a last-minute charity event, and he needs it fast. Not that women aren’t throwing themselves at his world-famous face and body, but sometimes it’s less messy—as in less personal—to use his sister Shera’s escort service.

The last woman on earth Marc expects to see in his sister’s office is Chaili. There’s something different about her, but nothing pleases him more when Shera sets them up. That simple date quickly evolves into much more as they both discover the other fills a deep, secret need they’ve shared with no one else.

Though Chaili insists one night is all she wants, Marc isn’t walking away now. Not until he discovers what put the shadows in her eyes. And the scars on her soul.

Excerpt

Marc sat down at the piano, stroked his fingers down the keys. It was a Fazioli. He’d played on them before, although he still preferred a Steinway. That had been the first piano he’d played on. It had been in middle school. When all his friends were playing the drums or a guitar, he’d been on an electric keyboard and then his mom had actually managed to find him that old upright Steinway at an estate sale, one she still kept at her place for him. He loved that piano.

He glanced up to Chaili to ask what she wanted him to play but she wasn’t there. Scowling, he glanced around and saw that she was in the crowd. Holding out a hand, he waited until she sat down next to him. “What do you want me to play?” he asked, keeping his voice low.

If he was going to pretend he was playing the way he used to, for himself, for his friends, then he was doing just that.

She cocked her head and then smiled, leaned in. “‘Walking in Memphis’.”

“‘Walking in Memphis’…” He hung his head, groaning. “Chaili, how many times have you made me sing that song? I was thinking about one of mine, you know.”

She grinned at him. “Oh, that was just the first. I plan on making you sing ‘True Believer’ next.”

“You and that song.” Smiling, he laid his hands on the keys, closed his eyes. Whether it was his song or not…it was a magic one. He could understand why she loved it so much.

As he neared the end, he lifted his lashes, glanced over at Chaili. She was swaying, a strange little smile on her lips. As he came to the line…

And I sang with all my might

He could hear her singing along with him. He might have asked her to sing louder, but he knew she wouldn’t want to. She never did much care for that. Still, he liked listening to her. He’d play again and have her sing with him when it was just them…then he realized that he was thinking about spending more time with her.

A lot more…

The song ended and he made himself stop thinking, giving himself up to the music.

He did “True Believer,” the song that gotten him his big break. From there, he didn’t bother asking, he just played. He forgot about the people around him. The only one who mattered was Chaili. From the corner of his eye, he glanced her way and his heart banged against his ribs as he realized she was watching his hands.

Seriously watching his hands. Almost the same way he’d been watching her mouth, he suspected. And there was a glassy little glint in her eyes—

Hunger burned in his gut, a terrible little knot that was taking on a life of its own.

He wanted Chaili. He’d managed to bash sexual hunger into submission over the past few years, letting it out in controlled, very controlled bursts, but this was…fuck.

This was gutting him.

A discordant chord filled the air and it jolted him back to reality. The song was nearly over anyway and he finished, pushed back and held out his hand to Chaili. They were leaving, damn it. He didn’t know where they were going—he’d take her home if she insisted, but what he really wanted to do was take her to his place.

Take her there…and then take her, damn it.

Is this smart?

It was the calm, rational little voice in his head, the one he usually ignored.

This is Chaili…a friend. And not just any friend. She matters more than most…right?

Yes.

She did. It was almost enough to make him stop. Almost.
